CAMS vs Heads

Non PI MOTOR

Which do I come out better getting?

And is this the type of installation where they coincide?

(Should I wait till i can get them both and have them both installed at the same time?)

Also what is a good cam that will give me that old school chug appeal (GOd I love that)

the VT stage II cams have a really radical idle as well as the Comp 272's. As far was doing both I'd just put the heads cam and intake on at the same time. You can put cams in nPI heads just have to watch the specs

Well, you can spend around 75 dollars for PI cams and install them easily and gain 10-20hp. But if you wanna do heads, thats gonna be costly cheapest i found was 250 for heads and cams. Then installation was costly as well..

The cams and the intake on the PI setup is what gains most, the heads really dont. But usually if you do cams and intake you do heads because of ports matching up.

You can install just the cams from a PI car and get good gains and have no clearance issues. For cheap money, if you want a nice sound and really dont care about cost (500.00) for aftermarket cams, then yeah go with a set of Stage 2's, get nice sound but make sure you get springs as well. Stage 1 you dont need springs, stage 2 you will.

I love you casper . So I can go with stage 2 cams with non pi heads?

And what springs will I need so i can get them also.

And installing just the cams arent that expensive?

Thanks man =]

I'm trying to get up to 300hp N/A

(Guy at turbo tune told me its impossible to get 300hp out of my motor n/a, and to put up a match vs a 99 z28 i'd have to get a new car, guess he hates ford).

Well, first off its NOT impossible to get 300 RWHP out of a NPI Mustang. Muscle Mustang and Fast Fords have their RED NPI Mustang that a few months back finally got 300RWHP. So it can be done. Without poweradders but with some money.

Ok..yes you can get Stage 2 cams just contact a cam distributor. Also with the springs who ever sells them to you should have enough commen sence to sell you valve springs too.

Now..if you want stage 2's youre gonna need to yank the head to replace the valve springs ( i can replace them without yanking the head, but im not gonna suggest someone try it ).

Installing cams on a SOHC mustang is fairly easy for me because i dont remove the front cover. It depends on who you go to for the swap. If they know how to swap them without removing the cover then it will be cheap, if not it might be expensive.

you cannot modify your maf. you can buy a bigger one if you want but you will probly have to change your injectors too. the maf is tuned to a specific injector size. most bigger maf's are tuned to a larger injector. your stock injectors are 19lb. i am not sure if you can port it out and have the piece retuned or not.

Rest assured a MAF can be adjusted by a tune, installing a larger sample tube in the MAF does not get the MAF "tuned" as well as most people think as it is used to make the computer think it is ryunning the same injector. A maf is only no longer good when it reaches the max ammount of airflow it can read, the factory maf is good beyond 400 rwhp in most cases.
