key wont turn in ignition

So i parked my car in the driveway 2 days ago, and it's been freezing cold here much like everywhere else, today i went out to move it so my dad could get out, and the key will not turn in any direction.

I've never had this problem before.. but then again every problem i have with this car appears in the cold weather.

any body have any ideas? its my dd, so i'd like to be able to drive it at some point.

Are you sure it's not just wheel locked? Try moving the steering wheel left and right as you try to turn the key.

+1 to the wheel lock, or it could be the mechanism went in the steering colum that allows u to turn the key.

happened in my old z28

This happened to me a lot in summer, I don't really know how I managed to fix it because at the time i was just trying everything and eventually it budged. I would like to find out the way to actually stop the problem?

Try using your mustang's key. Not your house key.

I took a hair dryer to it, and heated it up, then fought with it and kept going between ignition and to accessory and it finally broke free..

It might have been frozen, my windshield was frozen on the inside so it was cold in there.

think i can spray a little wd40 down there?

hmm.. how old is the key? They can wear down to the point of not working. The other idea are good ones as well. My first thought was to use a hair drier.

Sometimes my car will pull this on me, I can usually turn the key backwards into accessory and then pull the wheel left or right to get the pressure off of the lock and then it will work just fine. It's kinda annoying though.

Sometimes it is not the key but the lock cylinder. If yours has this you can get a rebuild kit from the dealer to rebuild it yourself to match your original key. This is as long as you can get the key into the run position.

96 GT vert, Aftercooled Vortech, Lightning MAF,42# inj, saleen cams, Bullitt intake, tune by APS, powerpipe, Magnaflow catback and O/R xpipe, Cobra brk upgrade, lowered bilstein suspension w/MM c/c plates and subframe connectors 3000 stall and 3.73's

i agree with rebuilding it. my 03 f350 (same as mustangs pretty much) acts up sometimes. i went to ford. it was 120 bucks. got it home. re keyed it to my key and works perfect and better than ever. just take your time and be careful when you open all the little bags

Guys, it was about -25 the few days he left it parked over night, pretty sure the metal was frozen together.
