transmission header clearance

i have a 98 gt and i just got my motor back from the machinist. i put bbk long-tube headers on and the motor is back in. my question is how do i get the transmission to clear the headers? i'm sure you all know how cramped that engine bay is. i don't think i can get to the header bolts without removing the engine again. any ideas? thanks.

remove the engine or drop the k member. i believe the passenger side header is the one thats screwing you over. if you can remove it things should clear.

Take the motor mount nuts off jack passenger side of motor up three inches and loosen header bolts on passenger side. The trans will clear the header then put starter on and tighten header back down. This is how we did it. Yes its a tight pain in the rear but you can do it without pulling motor or dropping the k. Look at the bbk instructions on their site. Good luck

The BBK's I don't believe has as much play in them as the MAC's. With the MAC LT's you just spread them apart and pull the tranny. With the BBK's I believe you have to at least loosen the Passenger side header.

You should just get a tubular K member (I love when people suggest this $1400 upgrade like its an after thought).

Jacking up the motor is the easiest way to do it without dropping the K member. However, you are still in for some knuckly busting. If I were to do it all again, i'd just get the arm that holds up your engine while you install the LT's by dropping the K member. Or I'd just get a Tubular K member. Not worth the whole mess of jacking up the motor and smashing my knuckles on the garage floor for a week. F you are your sheetmetal K member Ford!
