96gt mustang pi head/intake swap
Hey, i have a 96 mustang gt non-pi top end. I was wondering what exactly this 'tune' is on a pi swap. i went to phoenix and picked up the heads and intake in good shape for $300. also, i was wondering what good cam specs for this would be. another question is what something like this might do for horsepower. ive heard 40-90whp but wtf thats a big margin. so what i wanna know is what a true gain might be, im asking mainly for people who've done the swap themselves; but any input is appreciated.
Last question; running 14.1@97mph with CIA, bassani 2.5in offroad xpipe to borla catback, 3.73s, jet performance 15-20hp chip. what kind of time increase may i be looking at assuming my launch is the same? |

I can try to answer a couple questions.
A tune is basically changing the programing of your cars computer to compensate for the changes you have made to the engine. When I was researching the PI swap, I think I found that it was basically 40 rwhp increase without a tune to about a 60 rwhp increase with a tune. I however never put my car on the dyno so I can't say from experience. But that is with the PI cams. So if you went with aftermarket cams your increase would be greater. And I can't help you much with quarter mile times. I suck at the launch. I am still learning. I spin too much

I have done the swap on my 96 GT. It is a decent gain but I bolted a procharger on at the same time and built the bottom end. From my buddies car he gain 60rwhp with a tune. He layed down about 275 by just swapping and the car dynoed 215 with non pi motor and flowmasters on it. It is worth the money. With cams you will pick up anywhere from another 20 to 35rwhp. I ran my buddies 2002 GT at the track which laid down 265rwhp with the just a bassani and flowmasters. I ran it to a 13.92. my 60 foot and launch were perfect however. With your setup you should be able to do 13's all day. The launch and 60ft are what matter though as far as times. work on that and your good to go. let me know if you have anymore questions bro

Purple GT's FTW!!! YOU ROCK! anyway its more of a 40-50rwhp gain, its from the increased compression. You go from like 9:1 to 10:1
