A king cobra clutch is a great low cost replacement for stock. Just make sure to go ahead and replace the t.o.b. as well.

tob = throw out bearing. Comes with 99% of the clutch kits you buy.

tob = tongue on butthole

No, for real though, USE A OEM TOB!

All the others can cause problems.

you should be able to adjust it some. all you have to do is pull up on the clutch pedal and push it all the way in. (this is assuming you dont already have an adjustable clutch cable and aftermarket quadrant) how many miles do you have on the car??? to replace a clutch you have to at least drop the tranny. clutch kits are maybe 200-400 depending on what you want. i went with a SPEC clutch and just got a Ford Throw out bearing.

theres no way to tell if the clutch is different other than taking out the trans and looking.

as for the adjustment, ill break it down into the 3 parts for you:

1. look underneath your dash above the clutch pedal. you should see a triangle looking plastic piece - thats your clutch quadrant. chances are if its not plastic - youve got an aftermarket quadrant that doesnt "click" when you pull up on the pedal and push back down. no aftermarket ones that i know of are automatically adjustable like the stock one is. with good reason too, because the stock one tends to bend and can even break if you shift too hard or fast causing missed shifts (ive experienced this myself)

2. jack up the car and find the clutch cable on the drivers side of the transmission. there should be a small rectangular box held on by one bolt. slide it off. dont breathe in the clutch dust - its a carcinogen. if you have a stock, nonadjustable clutch cable, the part where it slides into the clutch fork will be plain. if its adjustable, youll see two adjustment nuts on it. depending on the clutch cable, they usually allow you to tighten up or loosen the cable pretty easily.

3. lastly, pop the hood and look on the driver side firewall near the hydroboost unit. theres a black cable that runs into the firewall there. if it looks black and dull and plastic-y, once again, its probably stock and non-adjustable. if its some type of shiny, chances are its an aftermarket firewall adjuster. this also allows you to adjust the cable tightness, in much more preciseness than the cable underneath.

most people do an adjustable cable and a firewall adjust. they use the cable adjustment to make large adjustments and use the firewall adjuster to fine-tune it, so to speak. although some companies (maximum motorsports comes to mind) say that any aftermarket cables are junk and only ford oem cables are decent - leaving you only with the firewall adjust to set the cable.

personally i havent had the chance to experience my adjustable cable/billet quadrant/firewall adjuster combo from american muscle yet, as i jumped right into my npi head/pi cam/pi intake swap just before i got them in. but from the reviews, it seems if you dont have some type of aftermarket adjustment, it is an awesome difference in how the car drives and feels.

is the clutch slipping? or making noises? or whats the deal with it? you say "worn out" but that can mean any number of things. if you've "overheated" it by banging through the gears more than a couple times, and its a stock, or organic style clutch, chances are youve glazed the clutch surface and its not engaging as hard as it did before. if it doesnt go back to normal after a couple hours cooling off completely, youve really messed up the clutch surface and are going to have to replace.

as for replacements, if youre on a budget like i was, and dont rag on your car too bad, go down to autozone or murrays or wherever and get a stock replacement kit. while youre there get a remanufactured flywheel (it was actually cheaper for me to do this than to have my stock flywheel resurfaced)

to ensure longevity of whatever you get, id suggest you get at the minimum an aftermarket quadrant (the triangle thing) and a firewall adjuster. that way you can easily adjust how it engages and the quadrant will ensure you dont burn up your new clutch due to a broken quadrant.

otherwise, if you wanna shop online, heres what id go with:
86-00 Mustang Sve Mongoose Clutch Kit, 10.5" 10 Spline For 5.0L & 4.6L at LRS - Same Day Shipping!
and
Mustang Clutch Adjuster Kit (96-04) at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!

without seeing the car in person, i cant really help much more...

ok well if i have the car in reverse and the clutch is pushed all the way in i would give it a little gas and it would make a klunking noise like it was engaging...also i will be rolling really slow and have the clutch pushed all the way in and i cant put it in gear it just scratches...also i start out in first gear sometimes it jumpes foward and backward...idk any help? if i do replace the clutch could i get a king cobra clutch andwith what kind of TOB? Also when i push it in it makes awierd noise but i think thats normal...kinda like a rusty hinge noise when u open a door....?

lol none of that sounds normal at all. replace everything asap or have a shop do a clutch job for you. sounds like what happened when my tob went out on my stock clutch. and whatever clutch kit you get, use the regular ford oem throwout beaing.

yep, those are what you are looking for. some will say to stay away from an adjustable clutch cable tho. i got one from Steeda and havnt had a problem with it. i would assume that because its a Ford Racing clutch, it would have a Ford bearing so you should be ok to use the one in that kit.
