DAMN! ... beat me to it.

Stupid procrastination.. well I went and bought the oil/filter to check my "theory" that the coolant issue has been resolved.

I'll get mine running... I just sold my dirtbike to help fund this little shindig.

So... after spending last night draining the oil, pulling the "Bosche Platinum 4"s, and 02 sensors..

I rewired one 02 sensor.. wires were burnt through.
found out the other one was cross threaded in.. which means I have at least one good one right now.

I refilled the oil, replaced filter, and put in some NGK plugs (gapped at .054).

Well... I went to crank it up and it turned over for 10 seconds without starting!

Then I realized that I cut power to the fuel pump.. haha. As soon as I plugged in the breaker in the trunk, it started right up! Idled smooooooooth. (a little high, but smooth) then I looked under the car, and it looked like I had a oil-fall (like a waterfall) under the car...

If its not one thing, its another.

uh dude, you need both of those sensors tapped in that aluminum crossover, thats for sure the reason why its hesitating and bogging down and I know first hand because i had the same problem last year. The one sensor is coolant temp and the other is for the ECU or some shit i forget i had a diagram. when u tap the hole use 3/8" x 18 pitch and that sensor will fit perfectly.

sounds like you didnt swap over all of your oil galley plugs from the old heads to the new ones? and get that other o2 sensor fixed up and shell be running dandy.

another thing - go to the hardware store and get a T fitting for that second coolant temp sensor. just another cheap thing so that you dont have to worry about that being your problem.

The heads were used, so the galleys were already plugged. It wasnt leaking like that before I took the valve covers off to clean the oil/water mix out of them also.

Any idea what size T is needed?? I dont have the car near me, but one of my buddies is going to let me borrow his to go to advance and pick up my new alternator, gaskets, oil/filter and what not..

did you use rtv sealant on the 10 key points? i dont have them on me, but theyre the corners of oil pan/block/timing cover, timing cover/head/valve cover, etc. they say you will leak a ton if you dont get rtv in there when you bolt everything back up together. otherwise idk, maybe misaligned a gasket somewhere ?

i feel like you are so much closer to finishing your car than i am. im still stuck with this stupid effing dipstick tube.

and offhand, no idea on the coolant temp sensor size. though i did bust one of mine removing it from my npi manifold the other day

- Cars running (but is lacking the power it should have from this swap)
- some of my plugs have white residue on them. :/

hate to tell you but if i was you i would pull the heads and take them to a machine shop if your burning coolant its seeping past the head/ or head gasket somewhere have them checked and smoothed out my g/f's focus was like that it was burning coolant but getting none in the oil, took the head off laid a flat edge down and you could see light of day everywhere head gasket was totally fine head just warped.

also the sensor on the drivers side of the manifold is the cooling sensor that sends feedback to the computer you need that one! so get a 3/8's tap and put that sensor in the one on the passenger side is just for the dash gauge that can be unplugged cause i put a temp gauge in my friends stang and its been disconnect for like a month now and it runs fine.

Thanks for the heads up jason.

The thing is, I dont know if I'm actually burning coolant though, becuase there is no smoke. I just, hopefully incorrectly, assumed so because of a lack of power and white residue on the plugs I've pulled.

And I promise you, at this point, it will be a cold day in hell before I pull the heads again.

Literally... freezing cold.

yeah its not as fun job for sure, one other thing you can do is have a leakdown test
pump pressure into your radiator 16lbs and watch the gauge and if it bleeds down real quick its a fast leak etc. dont leave it on for an hour and say it down to zero lol you get my point, over the years plugs get a light brown color just from normal use but white plugs sound like coolant seeping past, or do a compression check for example is 1&2 cylinders show about the same compression and 3&4 show low compression thats probably where the leak is, its a bitch i know but its only a matter of time before the situation worsens

Rather than pulling the intake to drill/tap it, couldnt I just lengthen the wires and tap into the other sensor's output wires? Should be the same reading if I'm not mistaken.
