BBk shorty header problem
I am trying to install some shorty headers, on my 96 gt, the drivers side went in fine, but the passengers side keeps getting stuck on the side of the car, and wont fit. Are their any write ups or documents online?

I know sometimes you have to undo the motor mounts and jack up the engine a little bit to get the headers into place.

Yes but if I undo the motor mounts and jack it up won't that put the weight of the engine on the Headers when I sit it back down?

Are you saying the header will not fit in the space, or are you saying you cannot get the header into position? Once you have it in position and have the bolts in it should fit in the engine bay. If not, take a hammer to the point where it is making contact and "massage" the space to make it fit.
It can be a beeotch to get into position, but it really should fit. What brand are you installing?

i have the bbk shorties and there is only an inch or so for space.
(tight fit on pass side) unbolt the motor mount and raise a little bit, be careful on dropping it back down, it has like one spot where it will fall back into place, only with an inch to spare, use a lil elbow grease , it'll go!

Thanks I am using BBK I have my headers off doing a head swap as well so I am trying to install them both as one piece, driver side went on fine, but the passengers side is where the trouble is.

look at the k frame you will see where the motor mounts are
directly below theres a bolt on each side undo the bolt and you can jack the motor up with a block of wood and carjack on the oil pan |

I installed mine out of the car like in 2005. If I recall correctly, I don't see how you can get to the lower/center bolts on the passengers side with the engine mount on anyway.
So if I am recalling right, I suggest removing the engine mount and/or even dropping the K. I TQ'd every bolt I could, and tried my best to match the TQ load by hand on the ones I couldn't get my socket/TQ-wrench on. I don't have any header exhaust leaks and they've been on the car since 2005 and just over 22,000 miles. ![]() ![]()
