Changed Gears to 4.10s and now speedo is wacked?

ok put the 4.10s in my car wich by the way they kick some serious ass! lol anyway my speedo is wrong wich i had expected it to be. thats why i had a SCT X Cal II tuner waiting at home. so got the car home hooked it up downloaded the tune, unhooked the battery for 30seconds as instructed and speedo is still off? American Muscle told me SCT would take care of the speedo and i thought that it would only take car of the speedo if the car is newer with electronic speedo n since mine is a 97 i thought i would have to buy the lil speedo gear. did i not program it right or am i right n i will have to get the lil speedo gear? Thanks for the help!

I thought all you needed was the speedo gear that goes on the snout of the speed sensor in your tranny...

Youre car is too old to program youre cluster. You need a speedo gear, check out steeda.com they have cheap ones. I have an extra in my tool box for 3.73's i would ship to you, but you have 4.10

Yeh I was wondering if a nice tuner would adjust the speedo for you after a gear install.

Casper would it work on the 99-01 cobras?

Chris, you lucky bastard you. I was wonderin' when you'd finally get the gears in. Hope you get the speedo thing fixed, that sucks. Thanks for the heads-up though, now I won't make that mistake, lol. So hows the streetability of 4.10s being that you have a manual tranny, as I do. I'm still on the fence of 3.73/4.10 so your opinion actually means something for once. j/k j/k. I'm just jealous is all. If you don't mind, how much did you pay, in total?

Snaker, my dads 97 has 4.10's too and they are amazing. Those DOHC cars LOVE to rev and the higher up they rev the closer they are to their power band. Im sure you know this owning one. but if you do decide 3.73's let me know i will ship you my extra gear.

yeah man the 4.10s are the SHIT! 1st gear is just about useless now! n I spin the tires even MORE on accendent! lol and WOW the take off is just incredible! I love my 4.10s....but now i really want some suspension mods to help get trackshion problem lol I Have to learn the car all over now! lol

Oh and yeah thats what I thought. I do belive I need the White speedo gear.... Rite? the guy at the ford stealership didnt have a clue what i was talking about n told me it was "damn Near Impossible To Find Out" lmao
do you know how much my speedo is off for a guestamate? just so I can still drive it intill i get thew gear in with out no tickets. lol that would suck! getting pulled over for going to slow. lmao I think its off a good 8-11 mph......?

dealership wouldnt have a clue what to use. They dont deal with aftermarket parts unless its Ford racing. But yeah i would say at least 10 off.

get the gears, install kit, Speedo Ger, wheel bearings, and the seal and have a trusted shop put em in! and if they whine NO its not normal. it just means they didnt want to shim them correctly. because everytime they shim em they have to pull everything back off. Mine are quitter than stock!!!!

and Casper I got that Gear comming to me now! thanks man! the speedo gears if i remember correctly are easy to put in arnt they? just take a clip off, pull the cable, slide the old gear off n throw the new one on?

Awesome Casper. I'll keep that in mind here in a month or two. I've heard that 4.10s in a manual transmission car are so steep a gear that it renders 1st gear useless (nearly) and unless you devote yourself into making your rear end capable of additional traction you might as well stick with 3.73s. So chris, guess the ? I have for you, sir, would be how's life in 1st gear now? Or is there any life left? lol.

its not useless my dads 97 cobra has them and i love it. Its so much more fun. Just get some street drag radials. Watch out for the sway bars though, they are hollow!! haha, just broke his recently.

so i need upgraded sway bars????? and yes 1st gear is still strong but its only intill 3rd when you get trackshion when heavy on the gas...lol im still relearning the car....but i dont want to drive it as much with the speedo being off. n who knows how long steeda will take to ship it....lol
