P0171 Error after pi intake and o/r h pipe

Well, I finally need to ask for some information that I haven't been able to find on the site. I have been surfing this site since I bought my Mustang 4 months ago and have found so much useful information. I want to say thank you for all of that before I ask my question!

I just did the pi intake swap and switched to a catless H pipe all at the same time. The install went perfect and everything worked out. But Unfortunately I now have a check engine light the code is P0171 saying the system is lean Bank 1. I used a fix for the rear o2 sensors to pull them out of the exhaust so that will not throw a code. The engine scanner is saying that the catalyst system is within efficiency so I dont think that is the problem. And I dont understand how it would be the upper o2 sensor. Any help would be appreciated, if there is anything else needed please let me know.

Thanks!!!

what did you do to the rear o2's? did you use mil eliminators? or leave them out of the exhaust pipe?

The rear o2 sensors are in spark plug non foulers. They just pull the sensor out of the stream of exhaust so that the air is only slightly blowing over it. Seems to work well so far

I live right outside of washington. Where you from? Also one is wiggling but it is th back o2 on the opposite side. and I dont think it is leaking all fresh gaskets and torqued properly.

on the northside. not far from 3 rivers. Did you drill and tap that hole for the coolant sensor near the thermostat housing? although that will give a different code but just though id through that in there. I would say recheck your O2 connections and see if theres something you missed somewhere

yep drilled and tapped them, and im familiar with the northside, I goto Pitt. Might be living in the northside next year. And ya I tapped the coolant sensor in. I am gonna recheck the sensor connection, but it isnt throwing an o2 sensor code. Supposedly the car was chipped when I bought it. I am wondering if the chip is leaning out the mixture and thats the problem?

hmmm never had that happen before but its possible
yeah i noticed you said a lean code, thats why i was thinking maybe a vacuum line or something may have got missed how the car run otherwise?

Ya that is what I thought, I think it may be vacuum but the lines are all connected. I am going to check again for any vacuum leaks. And the car is running like a bat out of hell. So much better. The only problem is that it is much slower to return to idle. I figure this is because of the increased air flow and the lack of back pressure in the exhaust system.

Well, no vacuum leaks in the engine compartment. It sounds like something may be leaking inside the cabin coming from the heater system, there is a high pitched suck every time you touch the gas. I dont think that is causing the code though. I cleared it and am going to see if it comes on again. If anyone else has any suggestions i appreciate it.

You have a vacuum leak, check your lines that go to your a/c heater control, those lines go to the engine. That will throw P0171 it is getting unmetered air and the ecm is not compensating for it.

Well it seems as if that code has fixed itself. I don't know what it was maybe just a hiccup from the whole install of everything. The only trouble now is passenger side downstream o2 is throwing a code. That is from me breaking it when installing the spark plug nonfoulers. They cause the two o2 sensors to hit into each other. Does anyone know of any part that move them offset. I know this is a vague and confusing statement but I think someone has had to run into this before
