Engine Shut off while driving, Now wont start. Please help..
I finally got the car running. She was running smooth, alternator working, no misfires. And I was cruising along at ~45 MPH and started slowing down for a stop light. I relised the car had gone quiet, and that RPMs were at 0.
Figured it was just another kink in this long and drawn out road of getting the car running again... So I pushed the clutch in, turned the key and... "CLICK"... nothing else. A single "CLICK" from the starter. Any ideas fellas? Thanks for the help so far, and once again... thanks in advance.

Its a bummer that real questions pertaining to the operation of a car go un-answered, or when the problem is resolved the OP doesnt update. I've seen like 7 of these threads, but no legit answers to what have fixed peoples problems. Only people looking for gremlims in thier car and shit. fucking gremlins..
I'm about to set my car on fire dude. And thats no joke.

Over the last few months...
I've done a PI Heads/Cams/intake swap. It was leaking water into the oil due to a bad gasket. I drained the oil (twice) and replaced the filter both times to clean the engine out. Since then, the oil/water issue has been resolved. I've solved Misfiring issues by cleaning the contacts on the coil packs and the Spark plug boots. I've also changed the Spark plugs twice. Today I had to tap into the main 12V line going into the alternator and jump that to the other 12V line that should have also plugged into the alternator (there was no current flow to this line). This caused my alternator to start working again, and charge the battery. I've replaced O2 Sensors, Batteries, and an alternator.

did u check ur fuses. we got a fuse that when it pops it wont let the alternator charge the battery. which would explain no current going to that line. mine pops at least once a month for some damn reason.

if the battery had a charge then no. but if you ran the battery so dead it cant turn the starter then it would go "click"

fuse turned out good? does your theft light or anything flashed when turning the key?
maybe your starter kicked the bucket? cause you said your batter is fully charged. Part stores can check the operation of it if you take it off and take it in..... |

man i feel for some of you people with some problems from your stangs mine has been so excellent to me! the only thing i seriously ever had to do with that car was basic maintance and my old plastic intake cracked and springs! but other than the pi swap and tranny swap etc etc was just more of a fun factor.

oh man. I had that same problem. If I were to make a bet and im like almost 95% sure this is the problem. check your fuel filter. chances are thats the problem. Those thigns go unnoticed for a long time, especially people who buy used cars. it might have gotten so decayed that now its clogged your fuel pump. I remember I had that same issue cruising along, came to a stop light and when I went to take off it just died. It tried to turn over a few times but just clicks. I got a new battery, new sensors, hooked up my tuner and nothing. Then i check the fuel filter and BANG that was the answer. Had to get a new pump too but after that she ran alot better. its worth checking out. only 5$ for a filter

Roush, It clicks once. Not the same as a "low battery" or a lack of fuel (when it turns over constantly). Just one time. If I had to guess, which I do, I bet its a ground that shorted somewhere.

Damn brother, I hate electrical issues. I suk at trouble shooting.
Question in fixing the alt. You feed 1 wire with another. Is it possible that you "back fed" an existing problem, therefor shorting something else? A single click sounds like a bad connection on the terminals. A bad solenoid/starter, or connection at the starter. I know, not much help. Just basic shit. Good luck and don't be like this ...

Haha, I wont. I'm going to look over the whole ignition line from battery to fuse box to starter and back tonight. We actually have real nice weather today.
So far, if I've had a problem I try to finish the thread with how it was resolved. (Since that was the main reason of this Forum... or at least why I joined it.)

I know you charged your battery but look for the negative cable. I begin to have trouble with mine. I replaced it and now the stang start everytime.

Thanks for the reassurance man, that was going to be one of the first things I did! Did you just replace the main Negative line going to the battery?

Make sure your ground that goes to the engine is tight, it sounds like a bad connection. Check your battery ground and postive at the Batt. To me sounds like your starter is not getting the right amps. It might be charged but if it does not have enough amps to turn that starter it will only click.
