1998 gt fuel problems

I know there is similar threads probably but could find them.... My car starts fine when its cold but when it gets hot or idles for 10 minutes it starts to stumble and cuts out. Then it wont start back up. i replaced the fuel filter and didnt solve the problem. Sometimes i get fuel pressure and sometimes i dont. I have new coil packs, new wires, new plugs, and pcv. I am thinking it is the fuel pump it turns on and primes the system sometimes but not always. It seems to be making funny noises also. My car has been sitting all winter in the garage and i put fresh gas in it. Last year it had a similar problem - i would be driving it- shut it off it would start back up until it cooled off; this didnt happen everyday but every few weeks. its a 1998 gt with return style fuel system, all the fuel pumps i see bbk pumps saying 86-97... would those work in my car? and since im probaly going to replace the pump... would a 255 lph pump work in my car with no other modifications?

Yeah, you can use a bigger pump without any problems. If your fuel pump is working intermitently i'd check for a bad ground or short. But if your gonna mod it up you will more than likely be changing it out in the future anyway so you might as well get a big boy pump now.

so 1998 can be either return style or returnless style? so the 86-97 pumps will work since i have a return style fuel pump? when i turn the key backwards the pump doesnt prime. i thought when you turn the key backwards it is suppose to prime the fuel line? correct me if im wrong....

It should only prime if you are turning the key to the run or start position.
