Wrecked the pony...

Posted this in the clubhouse but yeah.

I swerved to keep from hitting a deer, slid off the side of the road and into a shitload of trees, the biggest being about as big around as my wrist. At first glance it didn't look too bad, the windshield and drivers side mirror were broken but beyond that, just paint from what I could see.

The prognosis so far though has been pretty bad, the insurance did their first estimate today and based upon the body work and paint alone they are leaning towards calling it totaled. Tomorrow I'm guessing is when they will be looking at the undercarraig to see if I broke any of the mechanical stuff.

What I'm wondering though, is say they do call it totaled, what should I expect to get from it? It is a 98 Mustang GT with 130K on it. I have full coverage insurance through USAA.

Also, saying they decide it's totaled, would it be better for me to buy a new car or fix this one? I'm going to have a Mustang no matter what, and preferably an SN-95. Whether it is the 4.6 or the 5.0 isn't too much of a concern to me one way or the other. If anyone is selling or knows someone who is selling their car, a heads up would be awesome.

Money-wise, I think I have around $2500-$3000 in the bank, and that's without my insurance giving me anything yet. I'll keep you guys posted as to what's going on because I've never been in a car accident like this before and I can use all the help I can get.

Not yet. I thought about taking some last night when it happened, but I was kind of in shock and crying like a baby so I never did.

I would guess that you'll get around $6k for it.

If I didn't just have experience w/ USAA I would say about $4k as well. I just got paid for my car from USAA (2003 Mustang GT, 66k miles). It blue booked at $11k and they are being sold around here for $8k-$9k. USAA gave me almost $12k for the car. In my experience, they've always been more than fair.

His car blue booked for $6k and that's why I guessed that.

If I can get $6k for it that wont be too bad, I've been looking at some Mustangs on Craigslist and found a few that look kind of promising...

95 mustang GT 5.0 black on Bullitt 17'' wheels -First choice, $4300, 95 Mustang GT, bunch of mods.

1994 FORD MUSTANG GT -Second choice, $4000, 94 Mustang GT, a few mods.

1998 MUSTANG GT 4.6L $4250 OBO -$4250, would have to swap my motor into it or at least change the heads over.

1996 Ford Mustang PURPLE PEOPLE EATER PHAT RIMS Runs Great -$4995, but seeing as it is a V6 with 169K you could probably jew them down a lot, though it IS purple which is kind of cool

1995 Mustang GT Convertible – Rare 5 Speed -$3950 95 Mustang GT convertible in very nice condition, will need new top soon though. In Seattle.

97'Ford Mustang coupe -$3500 97 Mustang, in Seattle, would have to call for more details.

1995 Mustang GT -$3000, 95 Mustang GT but it's in Seattle

1995 Bright Blue Ford Mustang -$3000, 95 Mustang V6 with new pain, in Seattle

1996 Ford Mustang, 3.8L V6, RED, low miles, great shape!!! -$2450, 96 Mustang V6, in Seattle

Depending on what the insurance company decides to do, I want to get my car back no matter what. Whether for parts or to get fixed, not sure at this point.

I wish....

I'm not making enough to be able to pay for a loan, pretty much all of my money goes to school and bills.

The insurance company called again this morning, they're defintiely looking towards calling it a total loss. I asked about keping the car but they said that would knock off a lot of what money I would get back from them because they're going to sell it to some salvage yard to part out, and if I kept it then they would deduct how much they'd sell it off for.

I'm just going to probably take the check and get a new car, especially if I can get something between $3500-$5000. Kinda just hoping the insurance company doesn't lowball me and give me a check for way less than it was worth.

Sorry about your car man.

Good choice going for the pushrod 302 as your first choice. I have often wished i had gone that route.

usually a decent rule of thumb is go on kelley blue book and look up the trade in value of your car. that will give you a rough estimate of what you might be getting. that sucks that they call it totaled though

Well I took some pics, but they're in RAW format and I don't have Photoshop to convert them to JPG, anyone know how to do it easy? Not sure how much youll be able to see from the pics, but when I went to look at it and get my stereo out today it made sense as to why they totaled it, there was a lot more body damage then I had first seen. The entire drivers side was dented in.

Lol, I was going too, the studs on the back of the housings were all busted up though so there was no point. My next pony is either going to have some angel eyes or be blacked out though.
