96 GT, Adding more HP/TQ?

My dad is buying a super clean 96 GT w/ 15k miles. It is 100% stock, no performance or visual modifications.

Having an 08 GT I know basically bolt-on wise what would add some extra power and make it more responsive, but being a different car/engine, I'd like some input from the 2v gurus.

Goal:

Stay N/A, no FI plans now or in the future. Looking to add some extra power/handling, nothing outrageous.

Thinking:

JTL CAI w/ SCT X3 tuner 93 octane tune
BBK 70 or 75mm TB upgrade
Steeda UDP's
O/R x-pipe

Can anyone tell me what other modifications I might want to look into at this point in time?

I'm not looking to be at or over 300 rwhp, just boost what is there to a slightly more respectable level (215hp w/ drivetrain losses on this car takes it to what? 180ish rwhp?) of at least over 200 rwhp.

Any help is appreciated.

thanks

for the same price as all fo the items you want to get for it. you could just do a pi swap and get about 35-50rwhp (depending on tune and other mods) if your not sure what that is do quick search you will get prolly 90000000000 threads about it lol!

-gears
-short throw shifter
-imo - better off porting/polishing your heads,(or just get new heads) i just dont care for the whole silicone method(POSSIBLE problems in the future)
-change intake manifold and plenum
-cams
-remove some weight, lighter is better.

Pi swap or a supercharger....or both

Gears are a big one.

I gained 30RWHP from just a pi intake swap by the way. I have dyno sheets to prove it

look into a plenum - thats a pretty big choking point on 2v's.

pi swap is good, but a set of trickflow heads would be much more worth while.

although that is gonna put you wayyy over 300 rwhp lol.

Do you guys have any recommendations as to brands or places that offer good deals?

I know on the 3v things are a lot different brand-wise and part-wise. Still looking up half the terms I read about these older engines lol.

I really like this body style though.

Noob question though, I need to replace the plenum AND Throttle body on these cars correct? Not just swap one or the other?

I know on my 3v a TB swap does virtually nothing below 500 rwhp.

do the PI swap (this includes intake manifold, heads, and cams...also a good time to change all gaskets ect.) I also reccomend that if you do the swap you get the parts off a 2001+ GT, because the 1999 and 2000 GT had windsor heads...which means they have a 13 bolt valve pattern, whereas the 2001+ had the 11 bolt romeo heads...just makes things easier...and then do bolt on CAI, TB, and plenum...tune it up and throw on some 4.10's and you have a sweet NA mustang that holds it down

This is probably the best advice in my opinion. The PI swap, although a fair amount of work, will add around 30 horsepower. and you get the parts from junkyard or craigslist and do the work yourself, its never much more than $600. after that it sounds like you just want basic bolt on's. I would recommend exhaust, hi-flow cold air kit, TB/plenum (heard great things about 78mm BBK), etc. Gears are good to, but will hurt fuel economy if you go for 4.10's. It really depends on how far you want to go.

thanks guys, i appreciate all the info. I'll take it all under consideration at this point and decide what the plan of attack is once we're reading to begin modding.

4.10's are a must for gears You don't buy a v8 for the gas mileage
