Is it worth it?

Well I've been surfing around on the internet and toying with some ideas for my 97. I want to run SOME kind of forced induction. Most likely a turbo setup. Now what should I do? I was looking at Livernois Motorsports and DSS for their forger shortblocks. They are prefect, but a little expensive. I also can get a 2003-2004 cobra shortblock, but thats for a 4 valave and if I do that then im raising my compression to around 10:1. Thats alittle much for some forced induction. SO to lay it all out on the table, I want to run 12-15lbs of boost at the most. Should I go ahead and shell out the money for a Livernois or DSS shortblock or get a cobra shortblock?

I would stay away from DSS, going with V/T, Modular performance, or Steen racing would be better options. They will work with you to build you "the best" combo for your application. Do it right the first time, saving money up front will cost you down the road. You could always do the cobra block and change pistons as a alternative.

If I remeber correctly the 03-04 are 12-13 cc dish, if you plan to run 15-18 psi I would suggest 18-22 cc dish. Also CHP is a NO NO with modulars, they have a tarnished track record with customer service and durability.

So the 18-22 cc dish should be used for engines with 15+ psi of boost and 10.5.1 compression heads? And do you know by chance, when using a VT stage 2 or 3 head if the compression is raised and if so what size dish with that type of compression. Thanks

Heads alone do not determine static compression, you figure the cc of the combustion chamber of the head, cylinder bore, crank stroke, head gasket bore, compressed thickness of the gasket, deck/ piston clearance and ect. figure compression. If youplan to run VT heads you will want to discuss with them what pistons to run to achieve a desired compression. VT heads have a worked chamber so guessing (without having the correct numbers) a 20cc piston would be around 9:1 compression. Dynamic compression may be less depending on the timing events of the cam, there are a ton of variables to determine where you will end up. A good engine builder with experience will help you make the right choices, I was making a "suggested" guess without having all the numbers to crunch.

I hate it when all you need is money, but it doesn't come like that *snaps fingers* SO I was talking with the guys at VT and Steen Racing and they were wonder why so much boost. Well, really I don't know so I think now I'm going to stick with no more that 15 lbs of boost. And VT is helping me out with my combo and btw I'm going to use the Cobra shortblock
