Cobra cold air intake....

Really two questions here:

I have a 97 Cobra with a BBK cold air intake kit. Originally I purchased due to the fact that I did not want to have to remove the stock strut tower brace...any who, I ended up removing it anyways and simply haven't paid much attention to putting it back on. My 1st question is does anyone have a JLT on their 4.6 DOHC and if so, is it really worth the stated gains as opposed to the BBK?

Next question is I believe on the JLT you must relocate the smog pump. On the BBK you probably should too, but the directions do not state to and it is a royal pain in the rear to take the filter off to clean and recharge each time. Anyone who has a JLT and relocated the smog pump, how is? Much easier to remove the filter etc...

Please let me know your thoughts...

Even anyone with SOHC feel free to chime in as well. Really I just want to hear from those with experience with the JLT's.

I just put the JLT CAI on my 98 cobra 4 days ago. Took me 1 1/2 hours. Take tire off. As for the smog pump there are 3 bolts holding it on. You just unbolt it and move it forward and tilt slightly down and put 1 bolt back in. JLT says 1 bolt is more than enough to hold it. (I agree) The hardest part is putting the rubber 90 on the end of the giant intake tube. I boiled a large pot of water, added about 1/4 cup of dish soap, stirred around for a second and put about 2 inches of the rubber 90 (end that goes on intake tube) in the pot for about 30 seconds and it goes right on. (have a friend hold the intake tube while you put on the 90). As for the performance gains, I was really surprised. I live in central Ohio and the last couple days it's been about 35 degrees and my car pulls at half throttle like it used to at 3/4 throttle. I am very pleased with JLT's cai. Haven't messed with servicing filter yet, but seems like you just move the wheel well liner back in the front and it's right there. You'll see what I mean when you install it. Hope this helps.

Awesome Aikined, that's what I was looking for. Well, if you or anyone knows of someone who cares to have a 96-98 4.6 DOHC BBK cold air intake, I'm selling this one cheap, so let me know.

The BBK is metal and will attract heat and retain it much longer

i have a SOHC with a JLT CAI and that thing was a pain to get in..just like aikined1 said about an hour or an hour and a half..i have to take off the passenger wheel on mine as well to install the maf and the elbow tube and filter. i noticed better throttle response right away..the only thing with the big jlt intake is that u have to tune your car after install or its gonna run a lil rich.
