GREAT article and it seems it's the only one on the web as well!

my car is stock w/ npi heads

here's my delema, my 98 npi intake sprang all kinds of leaks seemingly out of nowhere and with zero warning [thanks ford] the conflicting info on the web is whether to use npi gaskets with the pi intake or not..I have seen articles that say you have to use npi gaskets and rtv the intake

the bottom line is i really only want to do this swap once without leaks [had enough antifreeze leaks this year!]

how has your swap held up over the years?

and then there is the question: why is the npi replacement more costly than the pi?? I can't figure that one out.

Hey thanks!

got it in and running well the first shot thanks to this set of pics and of course the op's install text and pics

no friggin way did I come anywhere near the super fast 3 hr's it took the op mine was like 5 hours BUT!I did it all at night outside with a mini mag lite! lol [not kiddin']

for the record I did it the cheap/hack way without the correct coolant tube..just the hose and creativity but I want to say even though it does work I wouldn't suggest doing it that way, the problem here was my leak started getting stupid and ford didn't have the damned tube in stock nor did any ford dealer within driving distance. better hose than baked motor! now comes the waityinfg game to see how long it lasts...erm..

my helpful hint in this thread is simply to tell you where the cheapest PI intake was found... mustangs unlimited in manchester ct. for 179.00! and it's a ford racing part not a dorkman.

thanks guys!

DPFE =The EGR system is a Pressure Feedback EGR (PFE) or Differential PFE (DPFE) system, controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and composed of the following components: PFE or DPFE sensor (also referred to as the backpressure transducer), EGR Vacuum Regulator (EVR) solenoid, EGR valve, and assorted hoses and tubing.

Dont use it. Go and get a intake with aluminum crossover unless you want to do this swap again in a year.

isn't there any other alternative, like can i use a "t" fitting and put the temp sensor and switch in the same hole?

sure but ur intake is going to crack and you will have to replace it. You are also going to hvave to extend your wires on that sensor to make them long enough.

what causes the cracking, heat or over torqueing the bolts, or are they just not a good quality part?

I gotta agree, don't use it..just sell it off and get a ford PI intake w/ the alluminum cross over it looks better and more importantly it it won't leak

btw mine leaked on my alt. as well and I had to replace that TOO. shit!

another reason these intakes crack is if you have ever washed thE engine down even while that intake was just a little warm THAT is enough to crack it..I suspect i cracked mine just that way oh, and .....plus they're JUNK!
