I took mine off today at the dragstrip. I can tell a differance in the sound of the exhaust not as raspy around 3000 rpms.

Picked up 2 tenths and 2 mile an hour after I pulled all that plastic off.

I ran my 98 with a K&N and no plastic box for years before I put an intake on it. Use the existing clamp and attatch it to the end of your intake and filter. Its not a tight fit but it gets the job done and wont fall off.

I removed my silencer, no noticeble anything (noise, or hp), but I wouldn't remove my filter box as then you'd be sucking in nothing but hot engine bay air and hot = bad for hp. So yeah, get a heat shield, if you're looking to rid your engine bay of that black box.

I have a 1998 mustang gt. I replaced the stock air system witha the K&N generation cold air intake system. It cost me about 250.00.And i have had nothing but problem.1.the oil from the filter builds up on the mass air and causes it to trip the check engine light.and run lean.I havent noticed any hp gains or anything.plus you have to reset the computer, which no one told me that.so I would use my money for something else if i was you. good luck

MAC and BBK both make nice chrome cai. And the difference in metal and plastic is not a big deal like some say. Maybe .5 rwhp, and the chrome does look nice under there. If you want the best go with JLT and have it painted to match you exterior color. Looks awesome and has the biggest rwhp gains!!
