Took it to the dragstrip today!

Well the car is a turd and Im a TERRIBLE driver. 2 years away from the track has hurt.

Here were the conditions today. 87* in the sun!
All stock 97 gt convertible, stock 3.27 gears, street tires!

1st pass right off the hiway, crossing the line about 5,000 rpm in 3rd
R/t .774
60' 2.424
330 6.72
1/8 10.201
1/8mph 71.09
1/4 15.638
MPH 90.75

2nd pass after about an hour cool down, and short shifting, crossing the line in 4th gear
R/T .719
60' 2.41
330 6.67
1/8 10.17
1/8mph 70.95
1/4 15.69
mph 89.22

3rd pass after another hour cool down and then taking all the plastic air filter house off, shifting hard (grinding 2nd and 3rd)
R/T .682
60' 2.437
330 6.652
1/8 10.065
1/8mph 72.56
1/4 15.43
mph 91.30

Dont know why I keep grinding 2nd all the time, not sure if its me or the shifter. Think im gonna sale mine and get another one. 60' times are crappy!

Not bad, work on those 60' times you'll see high 14 runs easy. Sounds like you had a fun day overall.

Mike you got anytimes on your 98 car?

There was a guy in a 98 today running a basically stock car with 3.73s, accufab upper and throttle body, getting a few 14s ranging from hi to low seemed he got slower every run. He was the one that told me to take the air filter assy off.

The last time I had the 98 on the track was in Steele in 05. I ran a 14.40.

Nice runs. Those 60 foot times aren't terrible for street tires. Get some D/Rs and you'll cut a half second off that easily.

The grinding of 2nd gear could be that your sincros are going out or the shifter, or you didnt have the clutch pressed in far enough. Those times sound just about right for a stock coverible. Get some exhaust, gears, tuner, shifter, and some new sticker tires!

I think the grinding is either the shifter, me not pushing the clutch in enough cause I shift so fast, or instead of pulling straight down on the shifter I'm pulling towards me. Or maybe I just need a new clutch. Dont think its synchros cause it only does it when Im puttin a good beating on it.

For exhaust I have the stock h pipe and removed cats and flowbastards!

Yeah some LT, O/R H, and some race bullets would make that mean! For the shifter, I would suggest Steeda Tri-ax, Pro 5.0, or the MGW. Also for those times, did you have your spare tire and jack removed?

MustangMatt made an excellent point. Remove your spare and jack!! Also pull out your back seat, at least the bottom section. No bolts in the bottom, just a release button on either side. If you want to do the back too, there are a couple of bolts. The spare, jack, and bottom of back seat should free up around 50 lbs just guessing, probaly more.

Yeah, definately lose the tools the passengers. Try to run with as little gas as possible too. That stuff isnt light.

I tend to run my car with everything i would have on the street. So im like you i dont take everything out possible. I just recently started running a M/T drag radial mounted on 15's.

But i think you should deff get that 2.4 60 down ALOT. If youre on a street tire at lease a 2.1-2.2. I can get a 2.0 on a street tire but i slip the clutch a bit. And it works great. Then again i could get anything better than a 2.0 on a drag radial. So i dunno.

They are more that 250-300 pounds? My next guess would be 400-450 pounds. I had no clue!

I have heard they are heavier. I just dont see how. There isnt as much steel in a convertible top as I would think there is in a hard top. Plus there isnt as much plastic in the back seat or hat rack with speakers like a hard top.
