1996 4.6L SOHC Block vs. 1996 DOHC Block

i recently got a 1996 mustang GT block from a friend and, since i am starting with a bare block, i was wondering if it is possible to convert it to a DOHC Cobra. i go to school at an auto tech school (University of Northwestern Ohio) and am taking engine machining classes so machining it to spec. wouldnt be a problem.

Not worth it! Possible, but not worth it. I would just use the SOHC block, or sell it for a DOHC block. The amount of work and time and money doing the conversion would be money that could be used on nice heads or cams.

Yes you can convert. since you can access to everything. You are going to need to drill extra holes for the front cover because it wont line up. But like above said...just get a better block made for the DOHC engines. The Cobra has a italian built TESKID block and is much stronger. Start from that and build a nice 4v insted of a 2v. You'll be happier.

im doing this mod right now actually. i got a set of 96 cobra 4v heads (ebay for $60 plus 40 ship) and had a 5 angle valve job dont on them. Bpught a complete intake manifold system from a 96 cobra(ebay-$215 with ship) timing cover bolts up (ebay $65).i have a cast iron 98 gt romeo block. I went the high route with a forged stroker kit for $1700 but you ca get stock kits much cheaper. waiting for more funds to buy valve covers, headers, and t-56 but all in all its a fairly easy mod which can be done by getting decent used parts on ebay
