Fuel problems i think?

I have a 97 gt and yesterday i was driving and all the sudden it just started spuddering and died. When i tried to restart it it would turn over and hit but wouldnt run. It was pretty hot out so i let it cool down for about twenty minutes and it started up and ran fine. I bought the car about two months ago and the day before it died i changed the fuel filter and when i dumped it out it looked like mud coming out so im thinking it could be the fuel pump. The pump kicks on when i turn the key though and sparks not the issue cause ive checked the plugs, wires, and coil two weaks ago due to miss i had. Any help would be appreciated!

I had a similar problem with my 96 Stallion, if your fuel and spark check out ok, then check your MAF (mass airflow sensor), spray the sensor down with some MAF Cleaner. My MAF had a piece of plastic film caught on the two little wires of the sensor, cleaned it up and removed the film and everything worked like it should. Hope this helps, keep us updated

I just put a cold air intake on it about a month ago so i dont know if that could have any effect but the mass air looks good.

Make sure its all tightened up like it should be, no leaks. I know it sounds silly but could cause some of those problems. I had just got my car and the guy before me put a "cold air kit" on it. Except it wasnt a whole Intake kit. It basically just got rid of the stock box but left the black tubing. Well I was going down the road working on getting my shifting down (I was new to manuals) and my car just started jerking and dying down and eventually cut off on me. After it cut off several more times, and almost cause me to hit a stop sign pulling into my neighborhood, I popped the hood and the cheap POS cold air kit (if thats what you want to call it) had fallen off and was just hanging in the bay by the filter. So I put it all back together and it ran fine.

I told you man, I wasn't kidding. The guy was an absolute MORON. He was going to adjust the clutch cable so we could drive it home. He went to jack the car up on one side....not the middle like us normal people would probably do and instead of getting on a solid piece of metal he put it on a weaker part towards the outside of the car and bent that all to hell. I just noticed the other day it looks like he has jacked it up by the lower radiator support too.

yea about a week after i put the cold air intake on it started spuddering and died and when popped the hood the boot had fell off the intake but since then i tightened everything down. Also yes the check engine light is on and has been since i got the car. I took it to O'Reillys and tested it and came back with 4 codes. left bank lean, right bank lean, vacuum leak, and number 8 cylinder misfire.

Hmm, check all your hoses if you haven't already. Make sure there aren't any tears, holes, cracks that sort of thing. Make sure where each hose connects on each end that they are tight and that no air is leaking in or out. I find those little metal band clamps to come in handy there you can get them at hardware store cheap whatever size. Check your intake manifold for leaks to, cut your car on and get some "leak detector" and spray around the manifold, if it bubbles up there's a leak. You said the codes said it was running lean......try checking your O2 sensors.

Well its late and that's all I can think of for now so I hope that helped
