allows more air and the throttle body will allow you to suck more gas down, lol and a faster/crisper throttle response

in my opinion, yes.

i wouldnt go with an extremely big mass air meter cause your engine can only take in so much air, unless your planning on upgrading the intake manifold and heads

a 70 mm or a 75 mm throttle body will work great for nearly all apps. i would suggest bbk. some of the others are known for potential problems with the throttle sticking.

also an intake plenum is another known restriction for the air. these are all fairly cheap mods that just about anyone can handle and will add a lil more fun/hp/tq to your pony.

do you have to change the mass air to get the benefit of changing the tb and plenum?

no you dont, and you can buy a combination throttle body and plenum. bbk has a 78mm one. a 85mm mass air flow sensor is cool too but u need to get a tuner

it'll add a few hp and better throttle response.
and yes, the older stock gts are pretty slow...lol, but....
if your lookin for performance, your best bet is getting some 3.73 or 4.10 gears, second upgrade the intake manifold and heads, get some exhaust and a tune. call it done and youll be over 300 hp if you dont go cheap crap. the heck with the pi swap, go bigger/better, thats only bringing you up the hp of a newer gt.

want more? start upgrading the bottom end(crank, pistons, rods, etc) and throw a charger on it and then itll be badass, around 500+hp. these older gts can hange with the best if you got the time and money for it

I just bought the car, and the rear end was makin all kinds of noise. turned out to be pinion bearing, so i just rebuilt the whole thing, with 373's. got a mac cat back, but need a mid pipe. dnt know how much a cai will help due to the fact i live in vegas and its 116 degrees and dusty. for now i just pulled out the silencer. I changed the plugs, and got 9mm wires.

biggest problem i have had so far is the mach system...lol the car had an aftermarket headunit in it and sounded awful. pulled it apart, and it was a hack job. they had new speaker wire running to the 4 "big" speakers and tweeters werent hooked up at all. pulled alll that garbage out, reconnected the spliced wires to factory harnesses and hooked it up properly, just to find 1 speaker working"poorly" lol. i just put it back the way it was, but it was driving me nuts so i ended up ripping it apart a few days later. ended up pulling the interior apart to find that the harness in the drivers kick panel was disconnected, and the harness under the rear seat was disconnected. got all that worked out and all the amps fired up and sounded ok, but the rear woofers kept going out. pulled them out to find they werent original mach speakers and everytime the bass hit it would short out the amp. so i found som mach speakers on ebay got them in and all good...sounds great now!!!

sry for the rant, but mach stories usually end bad..lol. so i was proud of myself for not giving up on it..

You can check out MAC, I bough their 85mm MAF and CAI combo its a one piece tube turned from aluminium that incorperates the MAF and CAI tube (The same idea like BBKs one piece throttle body and intake plenum) , and it has upgradble air sampler tubes. I also bought their intake plenum that's similar to C&Ls. Then I installed a Proffesional Products 75mm throttle body. I tell you what w/ the complete PI swap, pulleys, 3.73s, a tune and the above mentioned lntake parts, they woke my stang right up. Never had an issue w/ any of them.

If I may, add to this thread with a question

I'm trying to do diligence by not researching before posting, anyway...

Is there any benefit to a stock (or 65 mm) throttle body over a 70 mm?

It's 5 mm, less than 1/4 inch; I get that at WOT maybe more air goes through, but in middle throttle range 2000 RPM - 5000 RPM is there any benefit in air velocity into the plenum?

The reason I ask, I may go back to my stock piece and possibly sell the 70 mm.

I'm curious to what you think.

i doubt there is much of a noticeable difference at all with *any* size throttle body. the plenum is one of the worst restrictions (next to the npi intake manifold) on our 2v's. sure dynos will tell you that a tb will gain you X amount of rwhp, but its going to be so little that youd probably lose that gain on an abnormally hot day, or if you had some crap in your trunk. i personally have a bbk cai, bbk 70mm tb, and professional products plenum. didnt pay a cent for any of it (came on the car) and i wouldnt have wasted my money on them if i bought the car stock. maybe the plenum - right after buying a blower.
