Does your A/C overheat your Mustang?

My 96 Stang dosent overheat anymore in this Texas weather but only when i turn on my A/C. Which i think is wierd because it turn on my fan, which should keep the temp in check. Any ideas on what it might be or if this happens alot to this year mustang.

Well I'm just driving highway and I'm getting plenty of air thru the radiator but it still overheats and throws out the water.

FoMoCo actually had a TSB on the 1996 GT's and Cobra's that addressed this problem in southern states and it inclueded a larger radiator and a/c condensor, different coolant fan, removal of the honeycomb grill (notice 1997 and 1998 dont have a grill), some air deflectors and more...to sea if yours had this done, look at the lower radiator mounts and sea if thev've been moved outwards @2" on each side....there are several things you can do on your own, like cleaning out the fins on the a/c condensor and radiator of bugs and debris, adding a bottle of Red Line Water Wetter, having the computer programed to turn the fans on sooner....also make sure the low and high speeds on the coolant fan are working..

how hot is to hot? My car will sometimes get up to 230 driving around town. I have a mechanical temp gauge so I dont know how acurate it really is. Car has never overheated or lost any coolant.

my ac keeps my motor cooler regardless of sitting still/running at speed/etc. thats at about 80-85* temps though. once you get into the 90's mine gets dangerously hot if you do anything but turn the heat on full blast.

Well i know that the fans turns on automatically at 220 degrees and when the arrow hits the "R" in NORMAL on the temp gauge but when i turn on the A/C it hits the "A" but when it hits the "M" the water start to throw out. Im thinking of buying a bigger radiator but not to sure if this will solved my promblem i just want A/C because of this texas weather where temps can hit 90 to 100 and putting my windows down really dont help cuz of the hot air lol

Out here in colorado mines always running on the A-L when its 90+ outside with the AC on. I usually try not to use it unless im starting to sweat. But with summer here i think my next mods are gonna be a PI intake manifold and a 170 degree thermostat and probably some new coolant sensors since my coolant light is always turning on and off at the most random moments. Iv read alot of topics about people changing the radiator and having no results. Even the mishimotos dont seem to help anyone. Im just glad my interior isnt leather.

Gatta be careful getting a lower temp thermostat. Go too low and the thermostat will stay open and the coolant won't have enough time to cool down and cool the engine. Bigger radiator would be my plan. I'm kinda concerned about mine overheating because my temp guage doesn't work and we get like 90 degree humid summers.

I used to have the same problem. With the a/c off, gauge would be in the bottom quarter when moving and halfway when stationary. With the a/c on however, it'll linger in the upper regions of the gauge and break through the glassboard when at idle. Turned out it was my core plugs, and a less than satisfactory coolant mixture. After getting those things fixed she ran like a dream, up until my evaporator core went bust, I can't use a/c now. And to add fuel to fire, after swapping my rack and pinion for a manual one, the temperature always seems to be too high now. Must've damaged a hose or something..better get that looked at

Do you know the number of the TSB? Im getting ready to go through my 96 and check for all the mods, this is one I'm defiantly interested in looking up as I'll be in Phoenix soon.

Go figure right?
