3.73 or 4.10's ??

I have a 97 Gt with a 03gt motor 5 speed, steeda tri-ax, bbk cold air intake, bbk off road x pipe, flowmasters. I'm a noobie when it comes to the modular motors, my past 3 stangs have all had the 5.0 trying to decide what gears to buy. and future mods, thanks in advance

go with the 3.73s. also i would hook up the suspension. Eibach springs, shocks, and struts, caster camber plates, anti roll kit, and sub frame connectors. Start there.

3.73/4.10 do a search and you should see thousands of posts.

That debate is almost like chevy/ford, conservative/liberal, AFC/NFC and so on.

I have 3.73s and I think the car my 4.6 spins up quick. Almost too quick for my taste. But I did change from 2.73s.

Ok i was in this dilemma about 4 weeks ago because thats when i was deciding on 3.73's or 4.10's i have a 1998 gt with the 5-speed in it. thank god i went with 4.10s. the acceleration is great, i tach 2500 rpm going 70mph according to my GPS. my gas mileage did not decrease much. if anything its improved a bit because i dont have to get on it so much when on the freeway or when trying to speed up. Go 4.10's you will not regret it one bit.

4.10's. I have 3.73's and they aren't a whole lot better than the 3.27's in my old stang.

4.10s I drive my car 50 miles a day on interstate and it's not bad at all. With 3.73s can you bark 3rd gear?

Was looking for a good post, already bought my 4.10's and was worried if they weren't to 'high' sort of speak. Also have a Ford Racing Driveshaft, Steeda Aly flywheel and a Stage 3 clutch kit. And my mechanic gave me some solid advice, get SOLID U-joints. Beats taking the hollow ones that come stock. Also a driveshaft safety loop is installed. So my driveline should be pretty much sorted.

If I didn't have a kb on my car, I would still have my 4.10's in.

this thread is pathetic. everyone's suggestion just so happens to be the same gear they have in their sig's. have half of you guys even driven a car with the other gear, honestly?

here op, heres a great suggestion: save your money. and instead of having to shift every 5 milliseconds due to an aftermarket gearset, youll actually have good traction. your rpm's wont go up while cruising. you wont have to shift more daily driving. you wont have to worry about the .0000032948 mpg difference between the gearsets. and you wont have to worry about a shop messing up the gear install, making your rear end whine. oh and you wont have to correct your speedometer, and you wont have to make a thread asking about if you can use a speedo gear, or if you should get a speedcal, or blah blah blah.

/rant.

Who stuck the pinion gear up your ass?

I agree the question has been asked a ton and that everyone is going to go for the gear we have, but all in all isnt this what a forumns about/for?

I have driven a car with 3.73s, but not enough to compare to my car and it was quite a while back.

All in all you gotta look at the plans for your car and decide what's right. If you are planning for a higher stage cam down the road your going to want a steeper gear out back and so on.

I like the 3.73's and the 4.10's, ive had them both, I enjoyed the difference both of them offered over a 2.73 ratio.

Brewer, I didn't mean to come off like an ass and im sorry if I did. Hence why I put /rant at the end. I have a legit argument though. I myself have driven 2.73, 3.27, 3.73, 4.10, stick and auto cars. It has always felt to me that for a daily driver stick car, 3.27 gears are sufficient. This thread has been posted too many times. We have a search feature. And frankly, in the end nobody can tell him whats right for his car. He needs to drive cars with both and see. Tire choice, suspension mods, etc all play into gear choice. Most important is driver preference.

Wow! lmao ok first off, this is the first 4.6L i have owned, thats why i was asking opinions because the power band is different than the 3 other 5.0L s that i have owned. secondly my mechanic has never F@#$ed up any of my other gear installs, Third I know all to well the teeth and colors for the speedp gears. Dude get laid and stop with the flaming. Ya know questions are what forums are for!

not sure where you were going with your "get laid" comment, but heres my gf:

and you best believe i get more ass than a toilet seat.
and congrats - this is my first 4.6 as well. google and craigslist helped me find it.
good to hear about your mechanic. i just didnt want you to have to worry about whiny gears. common problem with gear installs.
speedo gears are not accurate. i would know - i had one for my 4.10. if youre comfortable with still racking up ghost miles and your speedo reading 10 mph over - then disregard what i said.

and lastly - forums are for questions, youre right. but there are also literally hundreds of threads about 3.73 vs 4.10. you might as well make a chevy vs ford thread. camaro vs mustang thread. blondes vs brunettes thread (im biased here, obviously) please take a moment and use the search feature of the forums before you post a new thread. google has tons of results too.

and lighten up, eh? i said im sorry if i came off as a jerk. but this is a public forum and i did give an opinion like you asked for, based upon my own personal experiences. now how bout a beer?
