PI Cams On Non PI Heads

I HAVE A 98 GT. I HAVE AN EXTRA SET OF NON PI HEADS THAT ARE PORTEDAND I WAS THINKING ABOUT PUTTING SOME PI CAMS IN THEM. OR WOULD I BE BETTER OFF DOING A COMPLETE PI HEAD SWAP? ALSO WOULD ANYONE KNOW THE HP GAIN IN THE TWO DIFFERENT SET UPS.

If you check out my PI on non-pi intake thread i put the PI intake on my non-pi heads. MY next mod is to put the PI cams into my non pi heads.

You get great gains and actually the least horsepower comes from the heads. You get most of the HP from the intake and cams. And if you port those Non-pi heads you'll gain even more.

youll have way better luck if you put on PI heads and cams. wont cost as much to have head work done! that stuff isnt cheap. anyways do what makes ya happy!

Hmmm. not sure if im with you on that post drgn.

He said he already has a set of ported heads. So all he would need is PI cams, which can be had for 100 bucks shipped or less. So he can still keep his stock compression ratio and stilll run a S/C if he wants.

If he went PI route he would have closer to 10.5:1 compression and would have high compression so he wouldnt really want to risk it on a stock block.

Then you could either do the intake swap like i did, or buy the Livernois pi swap kit they sell for 600 bucks and put a PI intake on as well.

oh yeah...... either way you go, youre going to come up with more horsepower with the PI swap. BUT not much at all. due to the port job on the Npi heads. Only due to the fact youre still going to have the Non-pi intake. If you swapped that, then the Nonpi way would give you more.

youve got a point. ive just heard that even ported non pi heads flow just as well as stock pi heads. you can always have some work done on the new pi heads just gonna cost more money in the lng run.

Ok here is the low-down.

Typhoon intake. Professional Products just put out a new PI intake. Chrome finish, or not. The chrome finish is more money. Pick up this months Muscle Mustang and Fast Fords. Nice article on it in there.

The Typhoon/ PI can be put on Non-pi heads. I have a post i made and you can read ALL about it. I will put a link to it for ya.

OR...

You can spend maybe 600.00 the last time i checked and buy the Livernois kit. They are adapter plates to put the PI on the Npi heads. The way i went was to use silicone on the coolant ports. Only downfall is if the silicone ever decided it didnt want to seal anymore... you run a high risk of getting coolant into youre heads.

Hope it helps man!

pre 99 4.6 modular motors have a head/intake combo thats they call non pi. the 99 and above have pi (performance improved) that flow a lot better and make more power a lot more easier. so a lot of pre 99 stang guys will swap them out so hence the pi head swap!

Everything i put in that post is what i did. I didnt have to tune it or anytihng. But it would be a good idea to get the extra ponys from tuning. It was very simple for me im a technician. but still.... not very hard.
