i guess im not sure what youre asking... yes patriots are ported pi heads. and ported pi heads are, well... ported pi heads. so depending on whatever shop you have do the ported pi heads, i suppose the only difference would be the brand name and the iffy quality control patriot was known for back in the day. for the price you pay for the patriots, id look here: http://modularheadshop.com/heads/piheads.htm

i have patriot stage two's on my car and love them to death. they have a good warranty that they stand behind. the iffy quality control came from people shooting oil out the back of there passanger head BECAUSE THEY FORGOT TO PLUG THE WHOLE WITH THE PROVIDED PLUG lol. but just FYI if you want to run a large cam on patriot heads get dished pistons. i had the stock flat tops and they got PTV contact with trick flows cams (232/232 degrees) ordered some manley forged rods and SRP forged 18cc dished pistons and its been ungodly fun ever since.

i say patriot

if you have a well known machine shop around town, that does good work, then i would get some pi heads ported and polished. now if you really want some fun/good hp then spend a lil more and go with the trick flow twisted wedge heads and throw a big ass cam in there........now thats some hp you cant complain about comming out of a 2v. yes it does cost a lil more but def worth it

dished pistons are not the same as flycut pistons... the stock GT pistons are dished but the PTV issue is on the edge of the piston so you need to get them cut or margins into your intake valves. Most stage 2 cams will hit or be very very close (even when degreed to their spec ICL). Aftermarket valves like in the patriot heads will give you an extra .04 clearance though, which is huge in these heads... 225degrees @ 108ICL is .005" clearnace in stock valve piston applications

anyways, Fox lake, patriot and MHS are very good companies that ports. Just look around and see what deals you can find, either three of those will be fine. If you can find a deal the trickflow heads are suppose to flow very well, but more importantly, the PTV is nearly gone and there is little reason to flycut your pistons unless its cam is HUGE and running 9000 rpm. MHS has a lot of really good info you should take a look.

SOme valve work should be done if your gonna p&p the npi heads. The drawback with the npi's is the size of the combustion chamber. You can make them better with head work but you get better results with a set of p&p pi heads.

dee - i wasnt talking about the american muscle reviews. they had some issues with the valvetrain prematurely failing due to incorrect tolerances or something like that. its been a long time since ive read up on it, but mhs fixes the "bad batch" of heads that came out several years ago. i believe theyve remedied the problem now though.

chances are - your local ma + pa shop doesnt know how to port 4.6 heads. and they probably especially dont know how to port npi heads. talk to mhs, fox lake, etc. like modular said. npi heads are worth porting if you want to move up to a serious valvetrain to support the upper rpm abuse. pi heads also have a lot of porting that can bring out serious power. and trickflows are always an excellent choice.

this is probably the millionth time ive posted this, but TALK TO NICK: ModularHeadShop Modular Heads

patriot had issues a while back, havent heard any problem from their modular heads recently. depending on who you have port the heads will dictate the pricing of port work. the npi heads have their place on the performance side of things, if wanting to keep them then you can have work done on them.

tfofkyle- yeah making sure because a lot of times people read the AM reviews and thats about it. if you realyl research is patriot does havea great warranty on anything that screws up due to there parts.
