5 qts sounds about right, put 4 in and check it. If it's low, put another in.

For tires, I run a few pounds shy of whatever the tire manufacturer rated as max (i.e. My tires are rated 45 lbs max, I run ~42), but I'm going for handling/responsiveness/fuel economy, not traction off the line.

And I don't think you can determine appropriate PSI merely by the section width,

It actually takes 6qt's with the filter.

Proper tire pressure is whatever you want. I would use the door tag. Thats what i always recommend. Look on youre door for mustangs i think its 32psi. The tire simply states how much tire pressure is safe for that load tire. Doesnt mean thats how much to put in.

Agreed, as a starting point. The part I disagree with is that number is usually intentionally lower than ideal for NVH reasons.

Your best bet is to run what you think, and if you get wear on the outsides of the tire it means you need more pressure, if you're wearing down the center, you've got too much, and if it's wearing evenly, it's just right. Proper pressure is going to depend on driving style - if you corner hard, you're going to have to increase your tire pressure to keep your tire wear even.
