Tires for my car

Hey guys I was wondering what is the biggest size of tire I can stick on my '98 Cobra. I'm just about done fixing it and I need a new set of tires on it. Will 275s fit on or possibly even 305s. I'm talking without spacers, but if you know what size will fit in the well with or without spacers, post it.

275 is the widest I would go with a 8" tire and that is pushing it!

if you get some bigger rears like a 9 or 10.5 you can fit a 315. you will have to remove the quad shock, which you dont need if you have after market control arms, or turn the quad shock around to get it to clear the tire.

Just remember that going to a wider tire while keeping the same width rim will have a detrimental effect on cornering (as you get more sidewall flex).

It all depends on the width and backspacing of your rims.

my brother True2thehorse has a 97 cobra with 18x10's in the rear, he runs 285/35/18's and they look and ride great.

Okay, so what tires would work the best on my rim size?
They are 17 X 8s.

275/40/17 I would only do that on the rear though

Okay thanks. And then put 245/40/17s on the front then or what?
And by the way, what does the number in the middle mean? In the case above its the number 40.
Oh yeah, what is a good tire? Price doesn't matter too much as long as it isn't getting really expensive.

The number in the middle means the ration of tire height to the tire width! And personally I am really happy with my Nitto 555s and I have 245/40/17 all around!

275/40/17 out back 245/45/17 up front. Nitto 555's are my favorite!! Awesome traction and treadwear.

Well then, I'll probably go with the Nitto 555's. But on the other hand, are the Nitto 555R's better? What's the difference?
