RPM's for manual

I have a 5 speed 98 GT, without a tune. I seem to be shifting around 3500-4000 PRM, bc I feel my engine is revving pretty higher then it says and almost to where I should be shifting earlier. This is because my car's computer should be tuned correct? I know that with an automatic the shift points are bad, and can be easily corrected with a tune, but I thought with a stick it shouldn't be like that. I mean I could obviously just not shift until a higher RPM but I feel im hurting my engine, could that be? Thanks guys.

If your serious that your shifting at 3500 - 4000 them your not getting nearly as much performance out of you car as you can be.

I spin my 5.4 to 5500 and my ol 4.6 to 6300

I know, I mean if I ever race, (which is rare ) I shift it later, but I feel my engine is not tuned to be shifting that late. I feel its wanting to shift way earlier, I have driven other cars and shift later in them so I know its not me.

Your cars factory redline is set for 6k.

Your car dosnt need to be tuned lol. Its correctly tuned from the factory to be shifted at 6k.
Its acctually a little better to shift about 5-5.5k or so because you dont make to much power up top. But yea dude your fine. These are high revving motors its all good.

Are you talking about shifting when you race or shifting when your driving around town?

Yea i mean i wouldnt stay up there for long. But your plenty fine up in the higher rpms.

I will say though after 5500 your really just doing more harm then good. NPI motors dont make much power up there, so your just kinda reving and wasting time. Thats untill you get boosted then shift around 6

I shift at about 2.5k when I'm DD'ing and about 6200 when I race. If I'm doing some spirited street drivng I take it up to 4.5-5k.

Remember your cars PI.

We make peak power at 4k. So at 5500 were completely out of steam
