96 GT heater core replacement
I have two manuals about mustang maintenance. One says that I need to vent the AC and disconnect the AC dehydrator, the other does not mention anything about the AC. I have the dash out and the heater assembly loose. When I try to take the heater out, the evap (or what I believe is the evap) moves with it. There are two lines to the evap, one I can see how to disconnect, the other looks like a solid crimp fit flex/ridgid line all the way from the firewall to the radiator. As you are looking at them from the front of the car, the evap lines are just to the left of the heater core lines at the firewall. The disconnectable one is above and the crimp fitting one is below.
Any help or clues on how to finally remove the heater assembly? Many thanks, muchas gracias. |

I've always done all of my own maint., mods, etc. but when it came to the heater core everyone told me to take it to a shop. I took it to the local Ford dealer, and they did have to evac. the AC and recharge. I talked to the mech. and he said they are a pain in the ass. Not much help, but I am pretty sure you have to mess with the AC to replace the core. Good luck.

Have the ac evac. done pull the dash drop the box and replace it. A good set of tools and a level head are all it takes. I have pulled the box on mine in a few hours for a heater core and had it up and running the same day.

Its illegal to evac the A/C without the proper disposal .Plus you can do internal dryer damage if you have the lines open to long. I replaced my own heater core without an evac.
Heres a couple links I contributed to that will help you and some pics on what the finished product should look like should to choose to cut it..Just take your time, its just time consuming. Not that hard. http://www.moddedmustangs.com/forums...t-vt1989.html? http://forums.modulardepot.com/gener...ater-core.html
