Cats or no Cats
Just installed a UPR off road X pipe onto the 96 GT with Flowmasters and it is LOUD! ! Im considering a muffler change or adding a set of hi flow Cats just to quiet it down. How many of you are running a similar exhaust set up and have installed cats on it and how do you like it now?

you have to go a bit conservative to appreciate a no-cats exhaust note, at least IMO. Even with that said I got busted about 6 yrs ago in a previous 99 GT I previously owned by a highway patrol for not having cats on a street tag'd car. He wrote me a ticket, the fine was expensive, and I had to go spend time trying to get a state ref facility to sign off on my car ... never again, not worth the hastle! good luck to you however...

I liked that setup a few years ago when I was a little younger, and still like it, but I was getting hassled by the police a lot. I switched to a magnaflow muffler, still without cats. Now I can roll around and not wake people up or set off car alarms, but still gets loud at wot.

Just switch mufflers to tone it down a bit. Flowmasters are a bit over the top. Magnaflows will bring it down a little and still sound tough.

never heard a mustang owner say their car was too loud. its usually "has a bad tone" or "too raspy" but never "too loud" i do agree that magnaflows (the regular magnaflows) would definitely tone it down for you if the cats dont help out enough.

Cats No Cats
Hello,
In my opinion if you are going to go with cats, incorporate a high flow catted system that will add 20 to 30 percent higher flow, plus give you the added benefit of extra HP and Torque from the X-Pipe Part# 93334.This system will bolt right in no welding or cutting is involved, and the bungs for the O2 sensors are in place. You will be pleasantly surprised at the cost of the system. If you have any questions please fell free to call, email or PM me anytime for low forum pricing. ![]() Regards, Don JDP Motorsports/Magnaflowplus |

i have 2.5" pipes, 2 catco hiflow cats (they are really small), off road h-pipe, and 2 chamber flowmasters, then out to the rear bumber with factory looking tips. its loud when you get on it, but at idle and cruising it has a very nice deep tone.

I've been thinking about the same thing. Running an O/R H pipe and my MAC setup, I get nervous if I have to take off in front of cops sometimes. Although I've been pulled over a few times recently with no mention of my exhaust. The dumps set off their share of car alarms though

I have an O/r x and flows on the cobra.
The question is can you handle the smell sitting in traffic and the vibration and sound in the cabin

Got the cats welded in today and it's back to nice and mellow but a little louder than the stock pipe with 6 cats. It does get a little throaty when on the skinny pedal
