hey guys just bought a used radar detector and had some questions..how well does your passport work? best way to place it on windshield? its reached long occassionaly..but also I have spotted a cop before the radar did ..

They're not cop detectors. They're radar detectors, seems people don't realize that.
Sometimes cops don't have radar \laser on while driving. And even then it's not a 100% thing. Best place is to put it in the middle of the windshield, make sure it's not pointing up, it's even with the ground.

I know that cops have to have there radars on for the detector to go off...im saying that ill see the cop before the radar detects ka the cop radar

And a quick hand for the radar detectors. All you need is a locked speed. By the time their radar goes off you see people slammin' on their brakes when its already too late. There are many tricks i would like to tell you guys but i would get in big trouble if someone found out i was sharing it on a mustang forum. haha

In all seriousness, Escorts are pretty decent. Cobra made good detectors for a while. How much did you get the 8500 for? They cost about $150-200 don't they?

I have had a couple 8500s. They are the best out there IMO. Good warnings without going off all the time. They work really well for oncoming radar on undivided roads. The instant on will still get you. I got popped in Az from a cop hiding behind a bridge. The detector screamed at me and then the cop looked at me and i knew i was busted. Its saved me too many times to count.

If the radar isnt on auto the cop has to check your speed and you wont get a signal til then.

Radars work best with some traffic. You pick up the guy in front getting his speed checked and you slow down before the cop sees you. Thats the idea behind them anyway.

yea used to have a 140$ cobra it was ok. not useful in town but saved me multiple times on the highway. oh and this threads in the wrong spot, gonna get moved

I don't know why it's so hard for people to just not speed. I got one ticket in my life, haven't sped much else. Other than going to the hospital.

And the occasional ricer smash for a few seconds.

I wanted to know if it pisses them off when you ask for a warning etc or if you have a legitimate reason for speeding...I'm always respectful to police, why be a dick they have all the power in that situation.

Usually if you ask for a warning you wont get one. Depends what legit reason is? "My mom is in the hospital, I need to get there she isn't doing so good."Is legit in my book. "I have to crap." Isn't.

i had a cheap 40 dollar radar detector that saved my ass a couple times on the freeway...but just get a radar scrambler ur speed never gets back to the cops radar.
