suspension first timer
Hey guys, so until about 4 months ago when I got my mustang I had no knowledge on cars, except for car audio. Im learning as im going so bare with me. Im starting to do some research on some suspension mods, I plan on doing headers and cams first, but I want to add something that will firm up my launches, im thinking some upper and lower control arms, would that be my best bet? Whats the install like for those? Im currently looking for some good write ups. Any advice would be nice, thanks.

upper and lower control arms are a good idea and a pretty cheap suspension upgrade. The install shouldnt be too hard, ill see if i can find a write up, and im sure there are some instructions on american muscles website. I also see you have lowering springs. Did you upgrade the shocks and struts as well and also do you have caster camber plates? CC plates will keep you going straight especially on lowered cars

The shocks and struts are stock, the only thing that has been done to the suspension is the lowering springs, makes the ride pretty rough actually, but I love the way it looks. I found a decent video on utube, its on an 05 mustang so Its probably pretty similar. I think I will ask my gf for some rear control arms for christmas lol
should I just get the rear lower or both lower and upper?

I would go with both while you in that area. they arent that bad priced depending on what you get (maybe around 250-300 for both) And I would definitely look into some shocks and struts. The stock ones are not meant to handle the drop from the lowering springs and the ride will be very rough. Throw some new shks/struts and it will be more comfortable
ALso im not sure about the 05s (maybe someone will chip in here and help us out on this one) but I would search a little and check it out to see how similar it is. Ill see if I can find something

yeah. I think ill get both the upper and lower for the rear. I think it will make my launches a lot better, plus around that time im getting my headers put in, so from the increase of the headers and the ability to launch faster I should be in good shape. next will be some cams. But I will search some more in threads for the install. Thanks brother. Reps

i have the american muscle brand upper and lower control arms on my car. installation was a little bit of a bitch. the lca bolts on the axle end were actually bent from a hard launch or something like that - in any case, i snapped them and had to pay someone to finish the lca install for me - costed more than the lca/uca kit. the uppers were hard to reach, but doable because nothing was broken. car seems to hook better, but i also believe my clutch is going - so its not really gripping like it used to. the nicest thing i like is that the rear end no longer "walks out" when making hard turns or hitting bumps midway through the turn. our rear ends are notorious for flexing around like that. and powershifts are dead straight. no rear end wobble or drama. just a little wheelspin.
note that if you use poly bushings in your control arms, the rear end will not have much flex left in it should you want to remove springs/shocks. had to drop my rear end again (unbolt lca/ucas) to cut springs and remove isos (the lca's actually raised the back end of my car up) note the noise, vibration, and harshness will go up noticeably as well. now i know we arent riding in cadillacs here, but its just something to consider if you like comfort. i got used to it, but i still kinda regret doing the lca/ucas for this reason. i believe you said you already have drag radials and springs so youre covered there. my next suggestion would actually be subframe connectors. full length subframe connectors are a very worthwhile mod (i have maximum motorsports - they run from the firewall to the torque boxes) huge improvement in structural rigidity of the car. honestly felt like driving a new car. hooks better too. like 98 said - look into shocks and struts. people dont realize how much they can improve your weight transfer. maximum motorsports in particular does not like aftermaket upper control arms for the fact that they can induce suspension bind when cornering hard. they prefer the stock stuff up top and maybe a set of quality lower control arms. if i had to do it all again i think id just do sfc's, springs, shocks, and struts. there are numerous mustangs out there running very fast times with stock suspension components.
