well i think its time for a rebuild

well did a comp test on the car to see if i could find out why its low on power and i found it. #1 100 #2 80 #3 95 #4 175 #5 150 #6 145 #7 90 #8 100. So i know i need to rebuild the motor or atlest rering and hone it but here is my issue. i want to turbo it anyways but i was thinking just a stock bottem end but now that i found this out im starting to think. if i got it apart i need to build it alittle stronger. so here is where im at if i build the motor i would want around 650-700hp where was on the idea for a stock bottem and turbo i was just wanting around 450. so my ? is if im doing a buget build can i run forged rods and piston with a stock crank and stock block with new bearings and have a reliable 650hp or so track car? im also thinking if i got it apart i would send the cams to like colt for some turbo regrinds and maybe pickup a set of better flowing heads or atlest port mine id like to keep the motor rebuild under 2000-2500 or so but i also want a car i can drag every weekend without to much though of the motor going

search the used parts threads on here, svtperformance.com and the corral.net you will be able to find forged internals in used but in good condition for a decent price. i say go all out (03 cobra crank, manly rods and some good forged pistons that is what i did and im making 537hp to the ground in my daily driver) just look for good deals and take your time. spend your money wisely and be patient and you can end up with a beast! a lot of people are selling or parting out there project cars to pay their mortgage (thanks to the morons in washington...... that is a whole other debate) so you can find REALLY good deals on top quality stuff

justa an idea, but if you got 2500 to spend, why not save another 400 and buy a brand new shortblock?
1996-04 Mustang 4.6L 2/4V "Street Mod 600 Motor" Short Block For Supercharged Applications at LRS - Same Day Shipping!

use your old engine for the rest of the parts(heads, intake, timing cover, sprockets, pulleys/etc
also if you look around youll find some a lil cheaper
