Dump's/Midpipe/Drop Questions.
Alrighty, so im getting my car inspected tomorrow which is nothing more then driving to a station, having them plug my car into a scanner, test, then drive away (ftw NJ for getting rid of lifting, and scoping your ride out)
ANYWAY..in the next few days im going to be trying out some new things. 1. Going to try and cut my spring's, but thats only temporary till i can find the right height that i want (no more than a slight 1 too 1.25in drop) Is it safe? Will it ride like balls? 2.I have a buddy who works at a exhaust shop, and i had him install my catback, since apparently pypes can't get their shit together and make stuff fit right. Ive gotten bored, and want to try dumps, and i've heard that i should angle them a little left an right so i dont vibrate my car to pieces? I dont mind drone, i dont highway drive at all. But getting to my main point...i was planning on buying a catted h pipe in the future but was wondering if while having dumps put on, i could have my buddy cut out a few of the 6 cats on my car and put pipes in place? But still keep some to keep it decently quiet. Would this essentially work the same? OH! And my other buddy who works for ford (and drives a 99gt with TF heads/that fancy intake) is willing to sell me his old TF plenum (p&p'ed)/75mm TB/intake spacer/and TB spacer(i lol'ed at the TB spacer) for 200 bucks. Anyone ever hear anything about the TF plenum? Sorry about all the shit to read, but my insomnia is kicking in again, and i figured i'd ask things while im bored. Thank's. Vince.

id recommend buying like a dirt cheap midpipe and having 2 high flow cats out into it. So its quiet, passes emissions AND flows better.

I have dumped 40 flowmasters ......... its obnoxiously loud and sets off car alarms and wets panties for miles.
1.) Yeah I recommend the angle. It will make a huge difference with the vibration. 2.) It will be worse driving stop and go than highway with dumps. Keep your cats in place, if you pull any try to keep at least one on each side in place or with dumps it's going to be an experiment in Artificial Stupidity when it comes to the volume. I had no cats my car with long tubes and the dumps.....and it just about ruptured my chest cavity with awesomely loud hell. Way too much for the street. As far as a new H pipe being the same as the factory one....not really. Your exhaust will only flow as much as the smallest restriction, that being your exhaust manifolds, then your mid pipe. Cut the cats out, and you're still looking at 2.25" exhaust tubing with weird bends. Free is good, but a new mid pipe will give you a much more enjoyable outcome. **edit** Forgot, you'll probably throw a CEL if you cut out more than 2 of your cats because your rear O2 sensors will say "shit man your cats aren't working".....MIL eliminators should be a consideration |

Hey fmx!
I have pypes violators, which kinda sound like straight throughs, which they pretty much are, they just have a slight angle inside. main reason i want dumps is because i hate these huge tips, and when i was driving to have the rest of the catback installed, nothing besides mufflers sounded SO good and loud and i felt it, with the tips, its all just back there, for the rest of the world to hear and not me! (plus it must look really sick to kick up dirt and stuff when you rev it )i was really thinking about it, and im only going to cut off the last two. just for some added volume. oh, and i have a tuner to turn off the rear O2's, but how do i do it? |

Yeah it'll be loud. Worse case scenario, just hold onto the old tubing and if you don't like the turndowns, put the old tubing back in place. It looks much cleaner though without the tips on sn95 cars, that's why I went with the dumps in the first place, looks much cleaner in my opinion.
As far as the tuner, what hand held do you have? And do you do an odb2 hook up for emissions in your state? If you turn them off you'll fail your computer test, which is why the mil eliminators are great. It just tells the computer "Hey the cats are working awesome," which is what the diagnostic machine wants to see. |

i believe it ended up being 1/2" front and 1/4" rear after everything was said and done. (front fender lip measures 27 1/2", rear fender lip measures 27 3/4" off ground) frpp b springs with dead coils cut off the rear. bbk poly isos all around minus upper rears. tubular lca's from american muscle (these raised the back end up *a lot*)
17x8's with 255/45 series tires. 1" spacers out back.

thanks man. shes packed away for the winter and im slowly paint correcting her in my spare time. shes super swirled up from a long and hard summer of racing and playing around
hopefully the procharger will give her some bite to back up the bark. now i just need to get together the money for the fuel pump, the bracket, the tune, etc. slowly but surely!

sweet man!
were going to pretty much have the same car, just 2 years apart, silver vs red, and no longtubes here. i plan on a p1sc in early spring. and doing everything i can with my npi. im a huge person who believes in work with what you have, especially since my enigne only has 46k on it. |

definitely sounds like a plan. i think eventually it will at least get a stock pi longblock if this npi motor gets tired (at 110k miles currently) and probably stock manifolds and another offroad midpipe. (probably gonna stick with an x) just to get some better ground clearance and make clutch jobs easier.
