Check engine lights!

Ok my 96 gt still keeps getting lights. It comes on and goes off. I have managed to get through emmissions and get tags so im good on that. I just dont like the light on. The last time i had the code pulled it was a fuel evap purge or something like that. Made since because i would occassionly get a gas smell. I replaced it, no gas smell but light keeps coming on. I did notice the hoses to the purge valve looked dry rotted. Also on an unrelated car. i have an 01 lincoln ls. It has an egr issue. Cant get tags on it. 2 months overdue!!! I have gotten the carbon block out. replaced egrvalve, dpfe, and the little black cap thing by firewall. All hose have been blowed out, no blockage. Tube is also clear. i am out of ideas. I have been chasing this problem for 9 fu@**ing months. help please. Its my wifes dd!

96 gt - next time the light comes on find out what number(code) it reads. other than that make sure everything is tight ans in good shape. also check the grounds.
