HELP!!! PI Swap problems

Hey everyone, Ive been coming to this site for about 6 months, but this is my first post.

Anyways, I just finished a compleat PI swap on my 97 gt . It cranked up great and idles real smooth, so i dont think there are any vaccum leak. I have a few questions though.

1. When I put it in gear the RPMs drop to about 200 and it almost stalls out for a few seconds , then it goes back to 500. Is this just the computer relearning, or a problem? Because i just went out and started it, shifted from park to reverse over and over and it finally started doing it smoothly.

2. Tempature problem. I put some underdrive pullies on so my water pump is not turning as much, but the temp seems to sky rocket. The fan is turning on, and I have let it run the air bubbles out and filled the coolant back up. I dont know if Im getting a false reading or what, but it kind or worries me because the gauge reads right on the bracket between normal and hot, even when Im on an open road with good airflow through the radiator making 50. Friend suggested a new thermostat, any suggestions? Is there a difference in the sensors on the crossover, or are they the same? Because we might have gotten those backwards.

Otherwise the car runs great...no valvetrain noise, Im going really easy on her for now going to try to put 500miles on her before I really get on her...and Im going to change the oil tomorrow. Any help would be great

Thanks
keith

Sounds like fun times. Well good job with the swap.

The shifting thing...you may need to let it relearn the idle process since you have had youre battery off for so long doing the swap. So take it back off and let it clear it self out for 10 minutes. Then put it back on and start it up....let it run for 3-4 minutes by itself. Then put it in drive and let it sit for a minute or so then put it in park again. turn it off and then start it and put the a/c on. Then turn it off and you should be ok.

You could try a new thermostat. And the air bubbles it takes some time for the 4.6 to bleed itself out. You may still be adding some coolant in a few days when its finally all ok. The coolant temp sensors shouldnt matter, but you should be ok if the wires are long enough to reach the sensors because if they were not fitting you would need to swap them. But you sound ok.

Thanks Casper, doing the battery fixed it.

The tempeture problem seemed to level out...it fluxuates pretty wild, but never past the normal bracket

The one other thing was when my buddy put the heads on he didnt put the oil dipstick in... ??? How do you get that tube installed with out a tottal tear down? even with the header pulled off it was not working...

Whats the fix for this? I was guessing changing the sparkplugs would fix the problem?

nope, i havent gotten a tune yet. I have an X-cal 2 lay'n around from my old truck, just need to get it reflashed for the stang with a base tune i guess, then hopefully a dyno tune after i get my xpipe and long tubes on.

Im guess'n its most likely the o2s, because it doesnt surge on idle, so no vacume leaks, and i dont see any other leaks. Maybe the exhaust has a small leak.
