I turn 2500 rpms at 70 mph. 20 mpg all city. I personally wouldn't use anything but Ford racing gears. but know people with motive gears that are happy. if you plan on keeping the wheels for a while do 4.10s. they'll help get those heavy 22s moving quicker. and they're a riot with stock wheels. be aware 2500 rpms can be loud on the freeway.

ok cool them i'm going to go with the 4.10's. And I understand that my wheels are stupid I've always hated them and always going to hate them but everybody I've come across feels just like i do and they don't wanna buy them or trade me for anything. so right now I'm SOL with the wheels. But I appreciate the advise without talking "smack" on my wheels HAHA. I guess after the 4.10's My next step is getting wheels or louder exhaust.... I was looking into it and I just got some cherrybomb cats on the car, so those cats plus thrush exhaust [and the pipes are like 2 1/4] turn downs are right after the exhaust. to make this thing louder should i just spend the $150 bucks to get full exhaust? or an H pipe? or should i just replace the thrush mufflers with like flowmasters thunder series, magnaflow magnapack, etc? I mean I'm looking for something that sounds mean. Maybe I'm being to cliché.... Once again I appreciate any positive response. and I took a look my differential says I have 2L73 so I'm assuming in my experience that means they are 2.73 gears with a limited slip? thanks guys.

i was gonna do 3.73 because i was scared of gas mileage topping out w/e i said screw it and went with the 4.10's if i didn't like em id trade em for some 3.73's well ive had the 4.10s for about 6 months now and I have to say i love it when every one says HOLY SHIT when you punch it and they get thrown in the seat, honestly tho nobody expects it out of an innocent automatic! <-- i am idk if you are or not! non the less I noticed a MAJOR difference down low with a good set of 4.10's back there

no problem man. its a pleasure when new guys come in here and can post intelligent threads, even if the question has been asked before. as for your exhaust, there's not much power to be gained with any more exhaust mods at your power level. if you're happy with the tone then keep it. take a look on youtube and see if theres a setup you like more. take a look through the classifieds and see if you find anything you like wheel wise or if theres something you can afford. those wheels you've got should fetch a decent amount on Craigslist with someone into that kinda thing. keep us updated too, these cars have lots of potential and can be very fun.

I agree those older sn95's have a HUGE aftermarket world so the possibilities are only limited to your imagination my first car was a 98 mustang I still miss it to this day!

Best bang for your buck mods imo is 4.10 which it seems like your pretty convinced on those. After that look into ported pi heads, edlebrock intake, long tubes, and nice set of cams and a tune. Your going to be putting down decent numbers, hanging with modded ls powered cars and have roughly 3k or under in it

i got my 4.10 setup bought installed for right at $290 was well worth the money I wouldn't do a H/C setup being so stock thats just imo because you won't see your best gain that early on id do the PI swap before H/C setup! heres what i did but this is personal preference its all based on what you want and expect out of your car

Exhaust
o/r H pipe
Cat back
4.10's
Tuner

Next is prolly gonna be the full H/C/I setup!

Richmond Gears are very good as well and they will save you about $20 over a set of frpp gears. As far as cams you should check out lethal performance. they grind cams designed specifically for the 96-98 NPI motors. The gears a re straight out of the box performance. The gears aren't going to be as noticable initially but the more you do to the motor the more they will shine. As for your exhaust, I would consider a set of shorty headers, an O/R X pipe ( the X is loud all the time VS. the H wich only gets loud when you get on it. ) and possibly a Loud Mouth 1 or 2 catback.

The intake is where you can pick up alot of power. The 96-98 NPI int56ake sucks. I would suggest getting a 99-04 PI intake and swapping it over. There is a good write up on it in the stickies at the top of the page.
