Ok. When you say it was a pain how so? Just a tight squeeze?

IDK if going in from the bottom will be an option for me yet, but I will do everything I can to make it an option. Just gotta find a way to roll the whole assembly under the car all bolted together like that.

What did you do to roll that whole set-up under there and into position Rob?

NVMI just found a 1000 lbs movers dolly for 12 dollars at harbor freight. I guess that will be perfect for what I need.

Very tight squeeze, even with a load leveler. The two big pains were getting the longtubes to clear the K-member, and the massive heads to clear the heater inlet/outlets and brake booster.

Yea i hear ya on the massive heads thin. Im doing this swap over my uncles and he has a 350 on an engine stand and i said that 350 looks tiny compared to this 281 and he said theres no way in hell thats a 281.

I said yup. He was blown away by that. He said that thing looks like a BB. Is it even gonna fit in your mustangs engine bay.

Pretty funny. Im getting it done though. Got the whole top side cleared. Now i just gotta pull the driveshaft and drop this beast outaa the M8 and start on the stang.

I had a guy just randomly stop by when I was doing cams on mine.

He pulls up and says "Wow that's a big motor, I'll bet that will put down some big power. What is it, a 460?" "Nope. 281." "You're full of shit. What is it?" "I told you, it's a 281."
He then shook his head and took off.

The only thing about going from the bottom Is you have to discinnect the ac and hydro boost lines for the power. The Heads are very large and it is a tight squeeze and with long tubes.... That would suck. The best part about going from the bottom is you have a ton of room to work with and you can install a 99% compleat motor rather than have to strip it down and reinstall every thing on it once it's in the car.

Robert

You can tell it's a small block when the heads are off.

Rob, this build is the exact reason I'm about to get an SN95 right here! Like some have mentioned here already, I'm respectfully envious of your build. All day I've been looking for SN95s, and I think I found a couple in Jersey and PA, and I may have one of these by the end of next week. You've given me inspiration to get one of these things.

I just hope I don't have to get rid of my S197 to make this happen. But I'll keep checking back to this thread. Thanks for keeping us all up to date so we could live vicariously through you!

Hey Rob, what did you do for the extra vacuum lines? The mark 8had an extra vacuum line running down to where the ac is for a egr crossover valve or something. Also it say in the how to that you can delete the air onduction system. What is that and how do i do it. Also im completely removing egr so what would ypu suggest i do with the extra vacuum lines?

I started over with the vacuum lines. Their was just too menny of the hard plastic lines that would only work in the mark8 setup. I just ran new ones to all the things that needed it.

I thought I should share the building of the new motor.

It's a 98 cobra Teksid block and crank that I bored .020 over, And turned the crank .010/.010.

Block back from the machine shop

Brake cleaner spray in the oil passage ways starting at the top and going down just in case anything was left from machining.

Removing the coating from the polished surfaces with acetone

Main caps with bearings coated with Redline assambely lube.

Way to take it to the max!!

But when you first did the swap did you have a sensitive/lightweight throttle cable?
