97 GT Transmission

I have a 97 GT with 103,000 miles on it and somtimes the car seems to freerev and then clunk into gear when accelorating after coasting down from about 60-30. There is also about a 4 second delay for the car to go into drive once ive placed the shifter in that position. Today I was slowing down up a hill, and went to regas it and it reved just like it was in neutral, and then slammed into gear chirping the tires. What do you guys think could be wrong?

have u checked to see if u have a leak in the transmission. I've heard of cars banging into gear because they were lacking enough fluids do to leaks.

it would hit hard cuz you have tthe revs up and its spinning freely then the clutches catch so its kinda like doing a power drop...make sure your trans is filled right ....but it sounds like its time for a rebuild
