antitheft problem

I bought this 96 ft thinking it needed a fuel pump so I towed it home and put a new fuel pump in it and the car will start and then dies. The antitheft light just flashes at a fast pace. The key is just a key cut from a hardware store and not a factory key so I was wondering if this is a antitheft issue? The ignition were you put the key at the plastic piece spins around also maybe some ignition issue. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Your car has a P.A.T.S key from the facrtory. A traditional key will not start the car. It will turn over and over and over but never run. You can get a new pats key from the dealership and it will need to be programmed to the car by the dealer as well.

So pretty much the key you have for it is worthless.

Whatever key you copied you need to use to start it

I bought the carfor a friend and drove it to his house the key had tape around the top of it. I just asked my buddy why he took the tape off and asked if it had a chip in the tape and he said it didn't. So did all these cars come with chipped keys? Thanks for helping a newbie out.
