96 GT - Swap an auto. for a 5 spd?

My son has a 96 GT Automatic and would like to swap it with a 5 Speed. First is it really worth the money or just buy a 5 speed car? Second beside replacing the trans., pedals, etc. what else would I need to replace?

Thanks

the computer would have to be swapped to the manual

switched back to the auto. it was alot of work for me anyways.
what kind of shape the car in? if its nice and worth keeping i would hang onto it

It's a nice car but not cherry, I just did a bunch of bolt-on suspension work for my son but nothing that can't be swapped to a stick car.

Thanks

96 97 98 MUSTANG T45 TRANSMISSION CONVERSION 4.6 GT | eBay

You could piece it all together yourself if you wanted too. I know the LKQ in Clayton has quite a few mustangs available.

You don't have to have to swap out the computer. You can have the car tuned and turn off the auto trans parameters instead. That will avoid the issues with PATS when you swap out computers.

Besides that you need the clutch, flywheel, clutch fork, clutch quadrant, firewall adjuster, cable, transmission, shifter, trans wiring harness, pedals, drive shaft (or at least the correct yoke), and shifter boot. It's easiest if you have a donor car to pull parts from.

When I had 5.0 Fox Bodies it was T-5's so now for the 4.6 it's T-45?

Thanks

Your probably the coolest dad I've ever heard of. If you get bored with his car I will let you go wild on mine. I'm in NC too haha. Wish my pops would help me build the stang. Good luck with the swap man, post lots of pics if you decide to do it.

^ +1 my dad isnt nowhere as cool as you about the only thing he helps me with on my projects is some beer at the end of the day. But just know that buying on Ebay is a hit or miss type of gamble. Just a week ago i went through a headache experience on trying to get a king cobra clutch kit from seller billetdesigner1. I got a defective product cuz 2 of the clutch forks were bent and what he called a brand new clutch kit had alot of rust on it but after shipping it back and another week of emailing i finnaly got my refund but im still out 30$ on both the buying and returning shipping costs. I would try other places first and always remember you get what you pay for and i wish i would have just chipped out the extra 50$ in the first place instead of going through the ebay headache.

Ya, I hear you. I only buy certain parts on ebay and always use PayPal.

Hey guys I'm his son with the mustang. He is a really cool dad he's been helping me out with my cars since I bought my first one. It has taken me over a year to convince him to let me do this swap and I think I finally convinced him.

Got trans!!

We found a Cobra Trans. from a local Mustang Club member.

Now I have another question will the manual pedal assembly out of a V6 car work in the GT or do we need a GT pedal assembly?

Thanks
