thank you...that helped me alot..i gues im going to sell my dorman pi intake,24lbs, proflow 80mm, and my superchips tuner..im going to invest into a larger mafs housing unit for my stock mafs and use my stock 19lbs, i would like to run a 75mm mafs,Tbody and plenum and then have a custom tune for all those parts and the current ones i have on with them like my cams and manifold and exhaust..im kind of upset that i didnt beat my buddies 96 cougar.we were dead even.he only has a 73mm mafs housing unit, 75mm plenum and Tbody, stock npi heads, cams and manifold, 4:10 gears and a custom tune..i think i should have walked on him with all my current mods but..........i didnt. atleast i didnt lose. When it came down to who won it was who ever hooked up better off the line. But my tires are a inch shorter and wayy older so im shur that didnt help..but still cmon! and we only raced off the line upto about 70 or 80ish...

Leave the stock MAF alone. You're not going to see any appreciable gain with a larger housing. Save the money for gears, a TC, dynotune, and tires. Those four things will make a HUGE difference in E.T.'s on your car.

but if i get a 75mm throttlebody and plenum wont i want the mafs to be atleast 75mm in size? what would be the point in having a 75mm Tbody and plenum when the stock mafs is like 65mm??? so wouldnt it then be a waste having a larger Tbody and plenum? ive always thought that when it comes in an intake system it should gradually get smaller untill it meets the intakeports so that in a way it compresses the air and doesnt lose density, volume or pressure due to larger then smalled then larger openings...am i wrong with that?

The stock MAF on a '97 Cougar is a 70mm, and it'll easily support your current mods. If you're dead set on changing MAF's, then grab a 80mm from a Mark 8. Don't install it until a tune with the correct transfer function is installed.

ya. i have a few buyers lined up for my superchips tuner but what kind of custom tuner should i get for my cougar? thats been the #1 THING HOLDING ME BACK. i dont know what kind of tuner to get, where to get it from, and ive been affraid it wont stand upto how well my superchips tuner performed for my car...but im going to take your guys advice and get the custom tuner to dial in my mods...it will be the last mod i will get since ille need to know what exactly needs to be put into the program, correct? since i plan on 75mm Tbody and plenum, and have my current mods and maby 373 soon, should i just sell my 80mm mafs and injectors or should i install them and have them included in the tune?

What superchips tuner do you have? Is it a XCal2 or the like? If so, you have what you already need. You just need the PRP software to be able to create a tune, a WBO2 to be able to dial in your AFR, a dyno preferably to tune on, and someone who knows what they are doing.

Any tuner (and by tuner, I mean person, not device) will be able to set you up.

i have the superchips maxmicro tuner 1725..it helps add HP and stuff but i cant dial in any specific mods..it adds the premo tune, fimer shifts, no rev or speed limiter and stuff. What are those hand held tuners that you send them your mod list and they write you a tune on what you want, and you get like 3 times to custom tune your car i think thats what my buddy has for his cougar..

Oh wow. Yeah, go ahead and sell that. A SCT handheld is what you're referring to (SF3, XCal2, XCal3, etc.). A mail-order tune on one of those devices will get you much closer than the old Superchips 1725, but a actual dynotune would be better.

That's Lonnie at BlueOvalChips.com. He's not directly affiliated with TCCOA, though it seems he's a favorite of a number of the posters there.

well im letting the Superchips go for 200 so im commited now..ille save thats towards the new tunes and 75mm setup..maby ille sbe able to sell my 5.4 Tbody on the new style plenum, its a 70mm setup..but should i still try and sell my 24lb setup or should i install it and have it incorperated into the tune? beacuse PI cams, ported typhoon intake, 75mm Tbody and plenum, exhaust, 80mm mafs and 24lb injectors..i think that would be a pretty solid setup..with new seals, plugs, wires and all that around it..im hoping it will be decently fast..but i wont know untill spring..winter building and part hunting starts..and WOOOOW 500+ for a tuner and tune from blueoval.com and the site has been under construstion for how long now? idk 500 seems way high to me..

If you have the 24 lb/hr injectors incorporated into the tune file, then you could run them. As far as tuning goes, check out Bama, too. It seems they are a favorite around here. Or ask others for recommendations. I've done my own tuning for years, so I'm not too familiar with the mail-order tune market.
