Pulling the 4.6

My end goal is to get 300hp. after the summer in the winter i plan on doing a full PI swap, CAI, 75mm TB, new MAF. Oh and a tune after. How close will the put me to 300hp? Also how much will i be looking to pay for the heads, cams and intake manifold? Any more suggestions to upgrades and what i should and shouldn't do are much welcomed. Also i plan on painting the whole engine block in high temp engine enamel. I think that i want to paint it red, any suggestions? My car is black and has gunmetal bullitts. Also want to put some diffrent valve covers on it too. I plan on doing this next winter.

I want these, but i need to find some that will actually fit onto a 4.6

you wont get to 300 on pi cams. a set of aftermarket cams will get you there or very close.

ill sell you my set of custom blue/black valve covers for your build. I think black and blue look a lot better than black and red but its your car. Just saying. PM me if you want a pic of the valve cover!!!

Thats not bad at all. I may do that, id like to see if i can find some affordable cams. Ill just go to alot of swap meets and thing along those lines. I need some LT headers also but this will be one good project. What other heads, cams and intake manifold will fit? What about Mark VIII cams and heads?

I got the same mods as you, minus the udp's & gears (shouldn't matter) but w/ ported heads and only hit 262 rwhp / 301 rwtq.

Finally got to a dyno ...

heres a question that goes along with what sweet2k said. If we do the pi swap and get some cams (whether mhs, hitech, or comp) how big of cams can we go before needing springs and retainers?

Usually stage 1 cams retain the original springs, stage 2 require upgrades.

With the PI swap, BBK long tube, off road h pipe, C&L plenum, Mac throttle body, Mac catback, K&N CAI, and a tune I put down 262 RWHP. With Comp 270's and comp valve springs it made 301 RWHP after a lot of tuning

Well i plan on going to a wrecking yard this summer. Or atleast a few of them Plus it would be a good winter project anyways and will give me something to do. Either way its getting pulled just for new gaskets and paint on the inner fenders and block its self so thought i mind aswell add some power too

go with stage 1 comp cams. if you want any good performance your going to need cams, the stock ones are good, but just not for 300hp. i havent had my car to the dyno yet so im not sure what im running. but here is my setup

04 GT
stage 1 comp cams 262s (stock retainers and springs)
LTs
o/r xpipe
flowmaster catback
k&n intake
intake spacer from AM (i didnt put it on there)
and a SCT tuner with 3 'custom bama tunes'

my best run was a 13.68 at 101 with bald street tires and no tune, but im not experienced on the track either, went back friday night with my tune and new street tires, i ran a 13.8 at 104mph and that when i bogged on the launch, i couldnt find that 'sweet spot' with my street tires, bog down or burn em down.

seeing that my mph went up, i should be running a better time than what i am. im hoping next time i have radials and can really put down some #s
