Stupid Speedometer..

So, here's the deal..

Ive started noticing recently that my speedo will just stop working....

Ill be driving down the road then.....BAM.
nothing.

then maybe, if im lucky...it'll kick itself in again and start.
if i launch...it wont move.

but thats not the only problem...

whenever it DOESNT work, or stop's, the second i let off of the gas, it sounds like its stumbling, and popping. (exhaust)

sometime's even the o/d light will flash, and i got 2 codes today.
P0500
P0502 (i think thats what they were)

please help me bratha's.

are you sure it was p0 and not p1500 & p1502?

because....P1500 Vehicle Speed Sensor Intermittent

speedometer problem is probably the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) it plugs into the side of the transmission. Some use a gear installed onto the VSS which meshes with a gear on the mainshaft of the transmission.
The other version is magnetically driven but still plugs into the side of the transmission and has an electrical plug.
Either one of these versions can fail and can be easily replaced with a used or new part.

As for the check engine light and the 0500 and 0502 codes; both of these correspond to an issue with the vehicle speed sensor. Make sure its plugged in. If it is, replace it with a new one and that should take care of your check engine light and your speedometer issues.

but, would that cause the stumbling and bumbling that happpens whenever it stops working?

also, im just going to order both a new VSS and speedo gear.
sound about right?

The stumbling and popping shouldn't have anything to do with the vss. That sounds more like a clogged catalytic converter.

Hmm weird, so is it like as soon as the speedo stops it seems as if fuel is getting cut off simultaneously?

sounds like maybe there's a short somewhere and the vss is going out with it maybe? I'd at least change the vss and start there, the gear should be in ok shape to re use but I wouldn't take any chances, they have a tenancy to fall apart when you remove them

yeah, as soon as the speedo stops it seems lie the car is stumbling.

kinda sucks since my car only has 51k on it..:[

and im not re-using the gear, im buying both a new one, and a vss.
i mean, its only 50 bucks, so why not start there.

and i dont really know if its fuel getting cut, but it kind of sound like the car doesnt know what it wants to do.

nope, everything is still there, everything minus speed.

no voltage jumping, nothing.

you see my confusion on this matter then, aye?
