Tapping Sounds From Engine

I am getting a strange tapping sound from my engine that I can not pinpoint. It occurs around the 1800-2000 rpm mark. Sometimes it is lasts just through this segment and sometimes it dosen't. NO NOTICEABLE vibrations or loss of power. It does not increase in sound with increased rpms. I was thinking maybe the idler pulley/tensioner setup. The engine is not consuming oil.

Could be, might be something in the valvetrain.

Kinda hard to give an answer without knowing the car or being there in person...

where is the sound coming from? upper or lower end? Run some good fuel system cleaner or give the engine a nice seafoam job through the fuel system and the brakebooster.Go out there and run your engine and pull the throttle cable untill it hits the RPM's where it makes the sound and try and locate where its coming from about.
