Transmission swap questions

I have a 98' GT that has an auto in it and I am planning on putting the manual from my other 98' GT in the car. So the plus side to this whole thing is I have a complete donor car with all the parts I need to swap over but I want to clear up some question I have before I start to actually do the swap. I hear that you can keep the same brain from the auto car but just have it retuned to turn off the auto perimeters so that clears that up, but I hear some people of issues with the steering column, is there a difference between the two and do I need to swap? And also you have to trim some of the hole that is for the shifter, now I read this for the 99-04 cars so is this the same for the 96-98 body style as well? Will I be drilling a hole in the firewall for the clutch cable also?

Thanks for the help

well my manual swap was in my 96 gt but I put a trans out of an 04 gt which is a t-3650. I purchased a manual puter from e-bay. I dont think you can swap out the computers as I did since in the model year 96 pats is in the dash but in 98 I believe it is in the coumputer so your ignition key chip is probably married to that computer. That being said you could get a tuner and then turn the auto trans function off so you can use your automatic computer I know my sniper tuner will do that. As far as the steering column I dont know of any reason you would have to mess with that. I did have to trim some of the tunnel but only about an inch across in the front. The hole is already there for the c-cable there is just a rubber plug there since your car came acrosss the assy line as an automatic there is even a little dimple for where you have to drill for the screw that holds the c-cable tro the firewall . Dont forget to swap out the little sub harness for the manual tranny its got about 5or 6 connectors on the end of it including plugs for the VSS,reverse lights, both rear o2 sensors.

Ya thats what I thought. I have the SCT Tuner from AmericanMuscle so I am sure I can tell them to turn off the auto stuff and they will shoot that tune out to me. Did you have any issues with the neutral safety switch?
