How to test speedometer? Pictures and Diagrams

How do you test a speedometer on the 1996 GT? I cannot get this thing to work. I even took it into the shop to get them to hook up the wire into the transmission. But i just cannot get it to work ive put alot of time into it trying to find out why. Ive checked all my fuses too. I checked the gears inside of the cluster. Speedometer has been hooked back up. Any ideas? how can i test?

So you've confirmed that you have power to the instrument cluster? Do other lights/gauges work on the cluster? Did you verify that the speedometer gear on the side of the transmission does not have a stripped gear and is sending signal? Does your odometer go up as you drive? If not (iirc), you might have a plastic gear stripped in your instrument cluster that controls both.
