4th cylinder misfiring and over heating... help!
Ok so about a month ago I swapped my cracked intake manifold on my '97 gt with another newer non-pi intake manifold. Well when I pulled off the manifold a little bit of coolant dripped into the spark plug hole for cylinder 4. When I started it up it was misfiring BAD. So I used some compressed air to get the coolant out and replaced the spark plug. It helped a WHOLE lot, but it was still misfiring quite a bit. So then I replaced the corresponding ignition coil. And that helped a WHOLE lot as well. Then, it started misfiring pretty bad again. I popped the hood and started it and fuel was spraying out. So I tightened the fuel rail down. And then the engine was running perfect. But here lately my engine has been getting really hot. Not necessarily over heating, but it heats up all the way to the A on NORMAL. I've checked my coolant and oil, and both was good. So any ideas why its heating up? And when I romp on it I hear a very slight misfire when I'm in 1st gear, and a slight power loss. The spark plug wire seems fine, and I don't see any leaks. Any ideas??
Oh also, my cooling fan has been extremely loud lately, could the motor on it be going out and causing the heating problem? Thanks a lot in advance! |

bad cooling fan possible if its making noise. i would throw some lucas top engine cleaner in it because that always helps alot and change your fuel filter.

Yep^ Or fuel injector cleaner, they might be able to work to their full potential.

I would first off make sure the fans were actually working. If they are and you hear that terrible squeeling when they kick on then I would look into replacing them. Changing your thermostat to a 160 will help with the cooling as well. Flushing your radiator may be a good idea as well. You may want to put in an in-line filter on the coolant hose first to keep the debris that will come loose from clogging your heater core.
As for the misfiring I would pull the plug again and replace it, this time use some air to spray out the hole before you reinstall it. Make sure to put some dielectric grease on the tip of the wire connector before you reconnect it. Speaking of wires, you may want to pick up a set of Ford racing wires to replace your old ones as well. When fluid sits around the plug and wire it is common for them both to get screwed up.
