battery problems
hot day in boston yesterday lost complete power car will stay running fine with battery positive disconnected as soon as i reconnect it guage starts slowly dropping and car stalls. any ideas on where i might have a short. all cables look fine. gotta go home and get my jack to check the starter cables

Get the battery checked. Its probably junk.

Bill,
Check/test the following: 1. Battery 2. alternator 3. charging wire from alternator to battery If it is none of those, you may have some parisitic draw occurring in electronics elsewhere in the vehicle. How do your battery posts look? It may be as simple as cleaning them up with a wire brush or a post cleaner.

ok exchanged for new battery. added in another ground. now the car will not stay running with bat pos disconnected. so i pulled alternator to have checked auto zone says it passed reinstall same issue wtf it was running fine earlier with battery disconnected but now will not. i have power at all connections all connections look good all fuses are good im at loss

You really should not be disconnexlcting the battery with car running on a computer controlled car. Get charging system checked with everything hooked up as its supposes to be with alternator in car. Check amps as well as voltagevduring test.
