Question

96GT...4.10's and auto??

Just bought a 96 GT w/auto trans. I'm new to the modular world so I wanted to get some input on something. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the trans is the 4R70W. I always thought that the limit with this trans was 3.55 gears...if I went any higher I was told the trans would act crazy and not know how to shift properly. But now I've joined this website and see that 4.10's is the the most popular gear to go with in an auto trans car. Are you guys having to reprogram something or get a custom chip burnt to run 4.10's or have I been told wrong about the trans acting crazy. Also I'm use to the regular AOD trans where you have to change the speedo gear for the speedometer to be accurate....is this the same for the 4R70W trans as well?

I have 97
4r70w
4.30 gears
All you need is a speedcal and a sct tuner later to make the shift points perfect. i love it and would not pick another gear .
3k rpm @ 70mph

Can you get by without the tuner for a while? Or is the driveability not good?

You can get by for alil while without the tuner but it will make it a ton better with the tuner cuz you can fine tune the shift point perfectly!
